x800xl pci e vs. agp

One fits into a PCI-E compatable motherboard, and one fits into an APG compatable motherboard. If you knew this already, sorry... but covering the obvious

There is none, they should be basically identical.

Niether of them can max out the bandwidth available to them.
 
First of all, the X800XL DOES exist in both formats. Second, he asked what the performance difference is - and there is none. From what I've read they appear to perform pretty much the same.
 
Yea, if you don't wanna upgrade your mobo you could always go AGP... if you have a choice PCIe is the clear decision.

ya, im upgrading to pci-e so ima grab the x800xl pci-e... thanks guys!
 
Technicallly speaking, PCI-E isn't always the clear choice, and in no means am I saying that it isn't.

It's just that by the time you upgrade your card, you're most likely going to upgrade your proc as well. Along with dual cores, the pins on the processors differ, forcing you to buy a new mobo. And price-wise, agp/pci-e mobos are about the same cost.

The real decision is between which video card you want. If you were to get a 6800GT, obviously you would want to get an agp version since it is cheaper, and the performance difference is small.

Not only that, but who knows what the future holds, and with SLI and soon Crossfire, there's no telling when technology changes.

Like everyone says, there is no such thing as future-proof. Just get the best that you can afford now and you shouldn't regret it later.
