X800XL install problem

Hi All,

My problem: a brand new x800xl that is crashing windows before it can even get recognized. Windows will boot and get to desktop and then promptly crash. Once in a while i'll get a message saying that it's the x800 driver setup.

What i've tried: Cat 5.4 5.3 5.2 4.12 and Omega based on 4.12. Uninstalling each driver before installing the next. I can boot into safe mode fine to install and uninstall drivers as needed.

I can put my 9800 non pro into the system with all of these drivers and it gets recognized and works without problem.

My setup
athlon xp mobile 2400+ lightly overclocked to about 2800+ speed
1 gig low latency patriot at 2-3-3-11 (standard speed is 2-3-2-5) running in single channel mode
an35n ultra motherboard
ocz 420watt powerstream psu
winxp pro: no service packs

now i understand that the first thing out of some mouths will be get the service packs. Well i have another copy coming from newegg that will be here in a day or two to solve that problem. While i wait, is there anything else you can think of?

it's lightly frying my mind why my 9800 works flawlessly and the x800 won't even load windows.

Any help appreciated.

edit: problem solved, multiple installs and use of driver cleaner eventually seems to have done the trick. Hell if i know what i did different on the 14th or 15th install go around, but everything seems fine now.
 
power supply or card, check both and I'd check the power requirements of the 9800 and the xl to see if you have enough juice for the 9800 but not the xl.

I have an agp version. I had a heck of a time with the card when I first installed it.
I had to use the cleaners in Safe mode and followed all the directions to get old drivers
and registry settings out. Then a new driver install and everything worked great.
BUT like I said I had 2 people on driverhaven telling me I had a mess and how to fix it.
And the directions were long but with the cleaners that clean everything even old install files and xp cab files in safe mode and then reboot and install it worked fine.
