x800xl brand name differences?

i'm just wondering if any makers are better than others. I know it's not that big of a difference in price, but I don't want to end up with a crappy card and littel/no support just to save a few bucks. Right now i'm sorta leaning towards the retail ATI branded card since I heard the warranty service is very agreeable with them. Anyone have any suggestions?
 
Manufacturer loyality is not as clear cut for ATI.

If it was Nvidia cards the answer would be BFG, Evga and maybe Leadtek.

Most people, I think, prefer Sapphire, HIS and ATI.
 
Yea I'm going to say SAPPHIRE, VisonTek and ATi are all I'll buy at this time. My suggestion is if you are woried. Pick up the ATi or Sapphire since Sapphire makes (or at lest did in the past) most the the boards for ATi.
 
ASUS makes good cards too, so don't be afraid to snag one from them.
 
If you can, pickup a HIS x800xl... they're not easy to find but they come pre-installed with one of the Arctic Cooler VGA coolers (4 or 5) or a knockoff of one... not sure but still very cool... because if you put an AC VGA cooler on yourself, you will most likely be voiding the warranty and it's arguably the best cooling solution for video cards right now.

Had I not already bought my MSI one I would have tried to find one of those...
 
Yknow what though, with an X800XL , it doesn;t really matter, they oc like crap. I had one. You're not getting much more than 40mhz on the core and memory regardless of manufacter. Whether you grab saphirre or built by ati, you won;t benefit much with this particular card, but don;t let that stop you, it's an awesome card for it's price and very fast @ it;s clocked speeds.
 
Sapphire or HIS

Why did you get rid of your x800xl, get a 6800GT, and now trading that for a PSP?...odd
 
i wouldnt get a sapphire x800xl due to the little weaksauce hsf

the asus one is cheap right now might as well get it.

powercolor is also a good brand
 
all my ati cards ive owned were sapphire, great company, good oc'in tools come with it........but after talking to a bunch of people, and doing self reasearch, id go with Asus.....as in my experince, sapphire's HSF's suck major big time :p all 4 cards ive owned broke with in 4-8 months

Asus has better heatsink/fan combos.......they have 10 layer pcb which i dont think anyone else has......and they are made to a better quality than most.......just my 2 cents, ill be going with Asus, unless i get an AIW for my next card

I hear ATI has the best warranty. But sapphire makes all the cards for ATI in the first place...

I'm going to be picking an XL up within the next couple of weeks for my new college build, and I'm leaning at the moment towards the Asus or HIS versions. I like both for their better than average cooling setup, particularly the HIS, but the Asus card features dual DVI in case I pick up a second LCD in a year or two. Also, as previously mentioned, the HIS version is a bit harder to come by than most. I am wondering about the current 3 star average rating of the Asus card on Newegg, but this could simply be due to some jackass giving it a 1 for no reason. Anybody have any direct experience with the Asus card or other ATI based Asus cards?

Edit: Sorry to diverge from the original topic of the thread, but I was also wondering what people's opinions are on the XL's lack of support for PS 3.0. How far down the road do you think it'll be before this really makes a difference between, say this card and a 6800gt? I'm just asking because I plan to stick with this card for a couple of years before upgrading (unless some sweet deals come around), but I don't want to be in the "stone age" of PS 2.0 if everybody else has advanced.

Visiontek has the lifteime warranty though so wouldn't that be better then the 3 year warranty from ATI?

ATI, PowerColor, HIS, Visiontek and Sapphire are all good brands for ATI cards.
 
I'm curious too, but I don't care about the stock cooling, as I'm going to be water-cooling it...any changes to recommendations then?

There's a cheap Gigabyte from Newegg too (in addition to MSI, Asus, Abit, etc.)...
 
I posted this in another thread but the cheapest x800xl ive seen is the connect3d version at monarch $249 shipped.
 
ASUS makes horrible cards these days, calling them 6800gt but have them with 12 pipes and ddr1 ram, they use tricks to screw people out of performance. I'd stay away from them, even though I would still buy asus motherboards.
