its normally 349$, but two 50$ instants, make it 249. GRab them while you can.
 
Comp USA also has this same deal.

I picked one up yesterday for a buddy of mine.

hopefully it'll be a nice improvement over his current 9800 Pro that he's using.
 
I got one yesterday as well. Mine rang up as 243.99 though. No idea why, but I wasn't about to argue with it. Pain in the arse to find one, though (had to drive ~1 hour both ways).
 
Confused. It says $299 online, and you save $50, bringing it down to $249. Will the store do another $50 on top of that?

It is slightly behind the 6800gt. So it's a pretty juiced up card at a lower price compared to Nvidia.

I installed a x800xl in place of a 9800pro on a friends machine. 3dmark2001 results as follows.

9800pro 18000 score
x800xl 23000 score

Definetly a good inverstment

There are other reviews out as well. Anyway, I'm not gonna get into ati vs nvidia. For the price, the x800xl is definately worth it. Unless one plans to do SLI.

Probably not an extremely significant difference.. a bit higher frame rates, but that's all. don't expect wonders :)

get this over the 6800 gt.
itll rock the shit outta it in playability.

Do these cards have pretty limited overclocking potential? Not too much info around about it, and just wondering how they fare compared to an x850pro or such
 
I'm not going to get into an ATI vs Nvidia debate. However, seeing as how i have actually owned a couple of different brands of 6800 GT, and i have actually owned a Connect3D X800 XL, i think i have room to comment. :)

In real world gaming use, the 6800 GT is a bit faster. It isn't a huge amount faster, but in general, it is noticably a bit faster. When you add on top of this the fact that both 6800 GT's i owned were able to overclock beyond Ultra speeds with no trouble at all, it puts the GT a step ahead of the XL. Not a big step however.

Now, the price of an X800 XL is typically $50+ lower than the corresponding 6800 GT (AGP or PCI-E), and in this case, the XL is definately the better deal. It gives you very close to the same speed as a 6800 GT (actually a little faster in certain applications) for a nice savings.

Now, if you haven't owned both cards, then trust me, there is no huge difference either way. Get what is cheaper. :)

Also, just to make another point. I play a large variety of games including UT 2K4, Doom 3, Half-Life 2, Battlefield 2, NFS: Underground 2, Warcraft 3, Farcry, and CS: Source. The only games that the X800 XL made a big enough improvement that i could raise the visual quality a step higher than on the 6800 GT were NFS: Underground 2 and Farcry.

Half-Life 2 and CS: Source were not playable with the X800 XL at a setting higher than the one i could play at with the 6800 GT's. Sorry to dissappoint anyone.

And please, before anyone flames me, understand i have actually owned both products. Also, i have never been "loyal" to any company whether it is Nvidia or ATI, or AMD or Intel. I simply use whatever is the fastest product for the money. Period.

So, in the end, i would definately recommend the X800 XL. However, that doesn't mean i am wearing ATI colored glasses that see the 6800 GT in a bad light. :rolleyes:

It depends on the rest of the system. If the rest of the system is fast enough, then the X800 XL will be a huge step up from the 9800 Pro in actual real gaming. The benchmark scores will increase too of course, but the real world gaming difference will be huge. Games that the 9800 Pro can only run at 1024 X 768 with 2X AA, the X800 XL will be able to run at 1600 X 1200 with 4X AA. This is a real visual difference you can see.

You just have to make sure the rest of the system can take advantage of a X800 XL.
 
Sadly, I don't think mine can. I'll wait it out and do the whole upgrade at once, hopefully around summer.

I'll let you know later this week :) I'm hopefully getting all the parts to fill in my Tech Tour bundle by the end of this week and am jumping on the X800XL PCI-e (at CC for price match). I'm going from the system below, which plays CS:S/HL2 at 1280x1024 with no AA or AF (highest setting I find enjoyable in game). Other games I have played extensively on this system (for baseline comparison): UT2k4 runs at 1280x1024 8xAF but was very CPU limited, Doom3 ran at 1024x768 High quality, WOW ran 1280x1024 no AA,AF and would lag in raid PvP and IF at its busiest times (but who doesn't?). I'll update here or PM you to let you know how much of a difference an A64 and X800XL makes.

I'm thinking of biting on this one. I have the BB in Springfield holding one for me. I'd do the PM @ CircuitCity, but the closest one that has a X800XL in stock is Waldorf. That's a hike and I don't have a car.

At any rate, with this talk of making "sure the rest of the system can take advantage of a X800 XL." any predictions for the system in my sig?

I just got one today, it was actually $251 with tax in arizona.

It was a noticeable improvement in CS: Source. I went from 1024x768 with no AA on a 9800 Pro to 1280x1024 with 4X AA which is a lot better on my LCD. It's very playable. usually Frame rates are in the 70's, occasionally dips into 50's. Hopefully I can throw my 9800 Pro in a second system.
 
just go mine from Comp usa, asking for a price match.

for some reason, my bestbuy in Ann Arbor showed it at 282.99-50 = 232.99
I ended up paying 242 after tax

it was a huge improvement over my 9500 pro

NFSU2: 1024x768 No AA --> 1600 x1200 2xAA

haven't done 3d mark yet. I also tried OC'ing, but it seems that this card doesn't have much room for OC.

I got to 440/510 from 400/492 stock

I disagree completely.

I went from a 9800pro to an x800pro and that was a huge leap in performance and quality.

Agreed. The X800XL is twice as fast as a 9800 in many instances. :rolleyes:
 
Got mine @ CC PM'ed to BB's price. $257.24 OTD, less the $30 MIR = $227 worth of fun.

This upgrade wasn't necessary but I had to do something good just for me with all the crap that's been going down lately.... but I digress, that's fodder got a GenMay thread.

Big honking card, pretty weighty. It smells like fresh electronic joy.

I'll post 3dmark01 and 05 before and after scores in a bit.
 
I have a 6800gt..

should I do it ? or no..

256 meg for 260 aint that bad.. I got the 6800gt for about 300 last month..

9600XT: 13350
X800 XL:
With Catalyst Control Center drivers: 14651, and had a driver related GPU crash.
With basic Control Panel drivers: 18224, no crashes.

Now to see what HL2 looks like with all the candy turned on.
 
2k1 is more of a system bench right now than anything... would be better to use one of the more gpu dependant benches.
 
well i went to Circuit City and had them price match..once i checked out they gave me 30 $ rebate ontop of that..

Pretty damn good then.. And HL2 & CS:S look sweet as well. With plenty of bells and whistles turned on. This was a good deal.
