Hey just want some oppinions. I am thinking about buying a 6800GT for $399. I was wondering what you all thought. Would a X800pro for $399 softmoded to XT beat the 6800GT or even the Ultra? I have a friend who works at Compusa and guaranteed me a ViVo pro. Could you all provide me with some links to some new reviews of the cards? All I'm finding all older reviews. So I boils down to this 6800GT or X800pro~Vivo??? Thanks..

All depends on what kind of games you play.. nvidia is somewhat faster in doom3 and ati is somewhat faster in direct3d games, but they are both really nice. That being said I have an x800 pro vivo with the 16 pipelines enabled and it's really fast.. almost too fast, most the games I play can't even begin to slowdown even in resolutions like 1800x1440.

ATI isn't faster in D3D games. Its just a matter of which settings you use and what game your playing. The 6800's are actually faster in more D3D games then the X800's are.

Far Cry + Half Assed HL2 beta /= all D3D games.

The 6800's are dominate in ALL OpenGL titles and not just DOOM 3 and the 6800's take more wins in D3D then the X800's do. In the recent Firingsquad review i just linked to you can see the 6800U is even faster then the X800XT PE in the CS: Source Beta now.

You have to look at which card is faster at the settings you use as well. If one card is faster at 1280x1024 and the other is faster at 1600x1200, you dont look at 1600x1200 if you fricking play at 1280x1024 lol.

The X800Pro -> X800XT PE route is also a real gamble. You take the chance of the X800Pro not being able to reach X800XT PE speeds and you completely void your warranty and not to mention the fact the card wouldn't be sold as an X800Pro VIVO in the first place if it was able to live up to X800XT PE standards by ATI.

The 6800GT is an easy overclock to and past 6800 Ultra speeds and the 6800U has more features, better drivers, and the best overall performance.

Not really. Firingsquad only put out aa/aniso and 2056x1???. And by what fps? 2 fps in AA and AF.

Look at the ultra high resolution we can see that x800xt pe crushes 6800U by a large margin. I think that speaks for itself.

I dont think you and me are on the same page yet.

Even at 2048x1536 w/ 4xAA + 8xAF the X800XT PE is only able to edge out less then a 1 fps lead lol. :D

how u softmod to ultra speeds on the gt??

You dont need to softmod the GT, you just Overclock it to Ultra speeds. Its already a 16 pipeline card. Its not like the X800Pro which is only 12 pipelines.

Wait, when could you mod an X800Pro? I thought you had to get a VIVO in order to mod it, and those usually run more than 400 bucks.

Also that is not a final benchmark. Firingsquad quotes themselves that there's some problem with CPU limitation. Also Firingsquad is ProNvidia if you didn't know this. They've been like this forever. Thresh = Quake 3 wheener, Quake 3 = John Carmack, John Carmack = Nvidia.

No doubt if I were to buy a card it wouldn't be x800pro. It would be between 6800GT against x800pro Vivo. I can't comment on Nvidia's image quality on the 6800 series since I do not have it. But I still prefer ATI's colors in graphics and 2D over Nvidia.

XT PE
6800 ultra, GT

They are all the same. Performance wise they are about equal. it's really preference at the end really.

Said I had to put 4 chraracters to post that, and .... was the best I came up with. :(

lol, well at least these are reasonable prices, but I thought ATi said they weren't going to make a xt variant for AGP? interersting turn of events.

Maybe they want ya to spend the extra bucks for the xt so they don't want people to mod the vivo's?

I *thought* what was supposed to happen is, the XT's will be $400, and the Pro's will be $350. While the ever elusive PE stays at $500.

Who knows, maybe it will be $400, $450, and $500. I like the first setup better though.

I think its more of a panic release than anything else. They saw the 6800 GT selling like hotcakes and probably realized they made a big mistake (which they did). Glad they finally released these albeit fairly late.

it could be but thats a powerful card, it will cut into thier xt pe sales when they come out.

i think its crazy how the agp x800xt is only about $450 and the x800xt pci-express ati radeon is a crazy $700:eek:

No doubt but seeing how the XT Phantom Edition is hard to find, its better for them to have something for sale than nothing.

i wish ATI would drop the X800Pro to the $350-$399 range, and then even offer a X800 (to compete with the 6800NU) in the $270-$299 range.

Of course, they're are probably hauling ass just trying to find a 6600GT counter rite now.

I would suggest the Pro only because it is hard for me to tell anyone to buy a $500+ video card and tell them it is a good value.
