x800pro vs. 6800NU upgrade question

So I'm talking with a guy on a different website, and he's looking for a 6800nu b/c x800pro's aren't supported under linux.

He's looking to trade his BBA x800pro for my BFG6800nu with some cash to make it fair. What are you peoples opinion on this? Think it would be an allright upgrade to make for a little added performance. I'm also sick of the beta driver crap with nvidia, which is another reason I'm looking to do this.

He's also added a nvsilencer to his card for what it's worth.

If any of you were in my shoes would you do it? He's also willing to ship his card to me first. It's a really really tempting deal, just looking for some 2nd and 3rd opinions on it.
 
Are you sure this guy is legit because that seems like a rather uneven trade on his part despite his desire for better linux support? If it is legit and this guy is trustworthy, then I probably would jump on the deal. The x800 Pro is certainly a notch up from the 6800nu.
 
Thats the only thing I don't know is legitness(is that a word?) of the guy. He is willing to ship me his card first to make sure everythings in working order.

My other option is upgrade from the ram in my sig to a gig of pc-3200 either corsair value select or mushkin basic.

What to do, what to do?
 
One option improves performance in videos and games. The other improves overall system performance. Depends which you feel is more important.
 
Well I was going to give him my card + 100 for it. But I just found out he tried an unsucessful pen mod to the card, I wasn't looking for a card with a failed mod attempt.

I think I'm just going to get a gig of corsair 3200 instead. Thanks for the advice all.

Then that way if I don't upgrade the card now it makes a more logical upgrade down the road for a new vid. card.
 
hah! so the not support for linux was a bunch of hooey... :) yeah for 100 more u can get urself a new x800pro :)
 
Is your 6800NU modded or moddable to 16x1/6 vertex Units? if not then the X800 Pro is substancially better .
 
Yeah I just decided got to with the RAM instead. I need it anyways. I called gigabyte to ask what RAM was compatibile with my mobo (K8VT800M) and I almost felt inferioir from the response I got from him. I don't remember what he said now, Evan Williams (86proof) is kickin my as atm. But yeah, I really wanted the 800pro but after hearing he performed an unsucessful hardmod on it, I'll just wait until the next-gen cards come out to upgrade again. Even though I HATE beta drivers more then I hate G. W. Bush. /me saves these thoughts for another sober day.

P.S. I was only able to get teh 6th vertex unit working, the 4 extra pipes are fucked. Black lines across my monitor with the extra pipes. D'oh!!!
