at the back of the card there is an L shaped metal covering the memory chips.. does that suppose to have thermal grease on it? i asked someone and he said use tape not grease for some reason i forgot.. anyone wanna help?

mine came with thermal crap, when i tried to clean it up with rubbing al it didnt really do much but smear around and ball up. you can use whatever you like on there. if you are going to be using a conductive compound be cautious as it will go out the sides and possiable hit the pcb if you use way to much.

now i remember.. a friend of mine said use ceramique grease?? and not AS5? is ceramique the non-conductive compound i should be putting?

shure. you can use a conductive just dont go crazy with it. to much is way worse than not enough

Arctic Silver 5 is not conductive.

I haven't removed the stock heatsink, I will when I get a new cooler.

arctic silver 5 is slightly conductive, slightly. probably not enough to do anything, but...flukes happen. arctic silver ceramique is not conductive at all, performs basically the same, maybe 2 degress worse, and is also approved for long term use, whereas its recommended to change arctic silver 5 a few times a year. so personally, i use ceramique, no danger, and you can put it on and forget it, you don't have to replace it nearly as much. which is cheaper in the long run, and also, ceramique is cheaper to start with. so yeah dude, go ahead and get some ceramiqe and put it on your card, thermal grease is better than tape any day, and ceramique is one of the best, and if you want, you can squeeze it all over your pcb, and all you will have is a mess, not a possible dead card.

the main reason i went back to ceramique from as5 was the as5 after a few months really grabed on to your heatsinks it got really sticky. it also nearly dries out.
