Hi,

Would it be possible to soft-mod a pci-e x16 256mb (DDR3) x800 GTO to x800xl. If I understand correctly, the only difference is 4 pixel pipes. It seems that if they all run off the same assembly line that they are basically the same chip, just some of them are crippled before leaving the production line.

Thanks for any replies,
B

modability depends on the card. some of the cores have cut pipelines so it's not possible. only way i've heard it done successfully is bios flashing. From what I know, softmodding is opening the pipes through drivers and software and not from flashing bioses. So my guess is no. the HIS might be able to unlock. I've also heard that the X800GTO from HIS is an R480, but HIS usually takes the reject damaged R480s and lock 4 pipes, you could try with that (uh, but the X800XL is like 5 bucks more). Which one are you looking at?
