x800GT?

yah, I believe it's supposed to compete with the 6600gt...a little late if you ask me.
 
They're also trying to soil the good name Nvidia created for the GT moniker. We all know the 6800 GT and 7800 GT are 2nd best in their lines but ATi is trying to make them look like value cards by using the name for their 8 pipeline card. Or they can screw an unsuspecting customer into thinking the X800 GT is a lower clocked top of the line XT. Either way, shifty marketing by ATi.
 
nvidia did the same thing with 5200XT/5500XT/5600XT/5700XT/5900XT when they were behind.

That being said, x800gt is too little too late. Looking at the benchmarks over at Guru3D I'd still recommend the 6600GT over the x800gt.

5200XT was put in Compaq machines
PNY and some of the smaller companies put out a 5500XT
ASUS, Gigabyte, and some of the smaller companies put out a 5700XT

I really think your being way way too paranoid. Its a good product at a good price. Heck for my next Shuttle PC (first PCIe!) I might pick one up, but so far I dont have any money!
Thats what happens when your just 16 though.

ASUS is not a " small company ". Its bigger than FX and BFG.

your comment would hold some water. However, his statement did not warrant that response, and honestly, it has nothing to do with the topic.

if youre going to nitpick about using english, then learn to use it correctly.

For the 5700 and 5200 I would say LE is the more common suffix for the value card.

Geforce FX 5500 usually only had the standard edition.

That leaves the FX 5600 XT for the most part and the FX 5900 XT, well at least the X800 GT is at least comparable to the 6600 GT.

Think of comparing a Radeon 9600 XT vs the GeforceFX 5900 XT. This is the same tactic Nvidia used so I wouldn't blame ATI for doing the same thing.

Oh no, not another card in the x8XX line! ATI is confusing their customers and hurting themselves by offering so many cards at one time.

From what I've heard, SS3 is of almost no use in the 6600GT, by the time we see alot of games that can use it, the 6600GT will be obsolete.
