Radeon® X850 XT (16-pipe/520/560)
Radeon® X850 XT PLATINUM EDITION (16-pipe/540/590)
So, we have no less than 10 distinct products under the "X800" brand. Moreover, the tiers are conusing. Is the X800XT-PE faster than the X850 Pro? Yes. Is the X850XT faster than the X800XT-PE? Nope, they are pretty much the same card.
Oh, and then there's the whole X300/X600/X700 lineup.
ATI's current generation lineup has no fewer than 25 different products - more if you count 128M/256M/512M cards separately. The products are separated into four tiers - x300, x600, x700, and x800.
Compare this with NVIDIA's lineup:
6200TC (4-pipe)
6200 (4-pipe)
6600 (8-pipe)
6600GT (8-pipe)
6800LE (8-pipe)
6800 (12-pipe)
6800GT (16-pipe)
6800U (16-pipe)
7800GTX (24-pipe)
ATI could never crush the 6600GT because they had so many products that competed against it. Never mind the fact that the 6600GT was the unquestioned midrange champ for a long time and the fact that it has continued to drop in price.

Shh!!! Don't remind them that...swatX said:...and this is the 5th card ATI released to compete with 6600gt
It's because the X800GT SKU is made-up of a variety of chips (R480, R430, R423 etc.) that miserably failed VPU 'school'. In other words you're getting chips like R480's that couldn't even work as an X850Pro with a quad disabled and end-up as X800GT with 2 quads disabled. They're dustin-quality parts that ATi rescued from the dumpster to make a bit of extra cash with.0810 said:how come its different here?

The X800 "GT" lol would be a the cat's ass if it were
1. "AS" fast as a 6800NU easily in all cases
2. Cheaper than a 6600GT by $20.00

And the fact they are milking it that hard makes me wonder about their confidence level in R520...though of course now I'm wandering into the arena of wild speculation.
