I ordered an x800 xt from zipzoomfly.com and it came broken so I am gonna have them send me out a new one. In the meantime is using ATITOOL to make the fan go at 100% void the warrenty? And is running it at 100% all the time a bad idea?
 
because when I ordered it they sent me an OEM version that I thought was retail and I called them and asked them what was up and they said that I bought the OEM version and I guess I did because the retail versions say retail next to them and the OEM ones say nothing next to them and have pictures of retail boxes. So when it got here the fan had a prong missing and now it definitly gets a lot hotter than most x800xt's that I know about so I am going to have them send me a new one. Mine still works but it just gets hotter than normal.
 
I am not sure how it is broken but IMO I wouldn't run the card at all if you plan on returning it. Seems like best bet would just be packaging it back up and sending it back for a working card.

**edit** ok I see how you mean it was broken now . I must have taken too long to post and others asked prior to me.

If it is just the fan that is broken and you are ok with having the oem then I recommend just getting a ATI silencer 5 or something. I never leave the factory fan on anyhow though. Aftermarket is really the way to go. Until you order that then yes I would run it at 100%. But I wouldn't take too long with it. Otherwise send it back for another. Good Luck.
 
see I would do that but I have a shuttle SK83G so I can't use things like an ATI Silencer because then it wont fit. But if you have suggestions I am open to them lol.

<---- poor bastard? haha nah I love shuttles and I have friends that have pretty much the same set-up as me and their cards don't overheat when they put the case back on so I know its a problem with my card.
 
I have a Shuttle SK83G as well - and I am using a ATi Silencer4 on my X800XT. I just cut the side of the case (dremel) using and outline of the heatsink/fan on the Silencer. It works perfectly because the fan takes in air from the side of the case and blows it out of the back of the Shuttle. So, I have absolutely no hot air from the X800XT going inside the case. Since the case fits perfectly around the heatsink/fan housing, I won't need to worry about dust or anything. I would suggest anyone with a high-end video card and a Shuttle case do this mod.
