x800 XT too much for system?

I was wondering, with the current system specs that I have...

P4 2.0ghz
768 mb DDR memory
350w? PSU

Is buying an x800 xt too much for my pc? I mean, would I get the max value from it, or would I need to upgrade my processor first, and the power supply?

If I buy a new video card for $525, should I just go all out and build a new computer for $2000? If I do, I won't have any lower than an FX-53, but would that also be too much for just playing games? Thanks for your help.

EDIT: My current card is a GeForce Ti 200. It is too old to run 3DMark05, and scores around 900 on 3DMark03. Its scores on 3DMark01 are around the 4500 range.
 
It will work in your current system as long as your PSU is not of the crappy variety. There is a big difference between an Enermax 350 Watt and a Tagan 350 Watt.

I suggest either overclcoking your CPU or getting a new one, possibly the fastest P4 your motherboard will allow.
 
I agree, if your PSU is up to the task then by all means.....go for it.

You're gonna have to enable a fair bit of AA/AF to really make use of the XT-PE's power with something like a 2GHz P4.....and even then you'll be held back. It'll still work fine, but if you aren't planning on upgrading your cpu anytime soon I'd say you could even pick up an X800Pro and save yourself some cash.

Your call, I'd go for it just to say I've got an XT-PE if I were you....but I'd also start thinking about getting a new CPU/mobo fairly soon thereafter. ;)
