X800 XT Problems...

Ok well I got this card today, and tried to install it on my system, upon normal power on, it runs for a second or two, then starts to make a loud beeping noise and tells me I dont have the power connected to the card, I infact do have the power connected to the card and I still get this problem.

Wierd thing is, I went from a 6800 Ultra, to this card, I know the 6800 Ultra needs more power, and the nvidia card runs fine.

I have a seperate power supply just for the vid card, which is a 400w.

Does anyone have any suggestions for this problem?
 
Is that power line shared with another device, like a hd or a case fan?

No it isnt, Its completly dedicated to the video card, I did because I wanted my 6800 Ultra to run perfect without a power issue.
 
bump ... is it possible the card is fried? If it powers up and then as soon as it POST's the light on the fan dim's and starts the beeping noise?
 
i dont know too much about dual psu's, but is it really necessary?? I've personally only heard of people from ocforums actually do it. I guess i should read up on it. :p

Why don't you try using one psu and see if it works?

p.s. why did you downgrade from a 6800u to a x800xt??? just wondering
 
I ran dual PSU's so i didnt have to worry about power being an issue when it came to overclocking, and since the 6800U draws a lot of power, I figured I would run it off a seperate PSU. Ive been a nvidia guy all my life, wanted to try something new. But Im pretty sure the card is at fault here, so Its getting sent back today.
 
I'd call support. An RMA might be in order. X800XT/PE's - there was a huge thread on rage3d many moons ago with this exact problem. People would power up and it would complain about not being connected to the power supply via that molex. And in most of the cases it ended up being a bad card. I got lucky and my X800XTPE didn't have that issue, but from what I saw there were quite a few that did.

Thanks for the info Riptide... I'm sending the card back to the orignal owner tomorrow. Good thing he shipped first, cause I got his card and tested it before I sent mine.
