X800 XL... when???

I really want to get the Radeon X800 XL when it comes out. Can't afford the X800 XT PE, but it looks like the XL will still provide good performance at much lower cost. Anyone have an idea when I'll be able to pick one up? Is the price point on this one going to be $300 or $400? I thought it was supposed to be $300.

x800 XL is a bang-for-the buck killer. However, both ATI and nVidia lie their asses off about availability of their products. So God only knows when you can actually buy one.
 
hmm all 16 pipes will be great esp if it's less then an x800 pro. That way we can oc it and get close or better then x800xt performance.

In HardOCP's benches, the x800 XL equaled and sometimes BEAT the x800 Pro at everything at stock clocks. OC'd it would be a beast, though I don't know how well it will OC compared to the x800 Pro.
 
Yeah, I've seen some people say it might not OC too well because no external power connector. But PCIe supplies more power than AGP anyway from what I understand. So is that really an issue? In addition, the X800 XL is built on .11 micron, so I would think it is cooler and requires less power than a X800 Pro at stock, and have more room for OC-ing.

Is that thinking flawed?
 
No sounds right. The extra maturity of 130nm may come into play a little but i doubt it.

I thought the main reason for going to 110nm was to save some money by having more cores per wafer.
 
Any more news? I am dying for this card to come out! I need info...

Since the AGP version would have a power connector, I wonder if the APG version will overclock much better than the PCI-E version?
 
It would be nice if they came out with an AGP version, but no word of it from what I've seen. In any case, PCI Express appears to be the wave of the future, so might as well get a PCIe mobo now and move away from AGP all together, while I'm upgrading my system.
 
The speculation is that the X800XL won't be an o/c beast even on the 110nm process because they dropped the low-k manufacturing process. The reviews I saw seemed to top out o/c at about 420-425 and stock is 400.
 
Personally I'm not too concerned about OCing the X800 XL too far because performance at stock is great according to every review I've seen. I don't need it to run Doom 3 at 1600x1200 6xAA/16xAF as my flat panel only supports 1280x1024 anyway.
 
I've been waitinig for all this since november. I'm really getting sick and tired of it. Probably won't even be available this month. Evil evil paper launchs. I was thinking about getting an x800 XT PCIe but I see those are just about unavailable for any decent price. I want something now and just don't know what to do. I don't want to be waiting 3 months for an x800 XL though...

I'm waiting to order from Buy.com myself. I called them this morning and like you said they dont have an ETA yet. I have a coupon for Buy.com so i'm going to wait it out since i'm in no hurry till i'm able to get ahold of an MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum.
 
Anandtech has an update on Nvidia and ATI availability from when they talked to vendors at CES. These are the card manufacturers, so hopefully they will be a little more accurate.

damn i was planning on getting X800XL in the 2nd half of Feb. they better have reviews ASAP.
 
if there's enough demand and there is and a manufacter is willing to make one then it is highly likely
 
I don't know if x800xl's will be AGP or not, but in the Anand article, it said ATI would be producing AGP versions of its GPU's sometime in March. Which isn't exactly an answer, but at least it seems it is possible.
 
This article at The Inquirer says that the X800XL is in large scale production right now, so hopefully it won't be too much longer.
 
Anyone notice that some versions of the XL come with an external power connector and some don't? I wonder if the ones with the power connector will be better overclockers.
 
you would firgure they would as they would likely be more stable with more juice but you could also argue that the cpus with lower voltages would be more stable cus they run with less juice so they would be better cores

Finding reviews is NEVER the problem. The problem is being able to actually BUY what is reviewed.

The X800XL doesn't require an external connector because its a PCI-E card and a PCI-E slot is capable of providing 75W compared to only around 45W with AGP.

ah yes but some of the pci-e cards still have the molex so that means they take even more juice than other similar cards or theorectically have more stable power sources
