X800 XL Problem

Hi guys, I'm having trouble with my x800xl agp card (built by ati). In Counter-Strike: Source the fps slow down terribly. I get 110 fps on the stress test but in game I can slow down to 30 and 20 fps. For 400$ (CAD) this is just not right. Also I've downloaded the Farcry demo and it refuses to run. As soon as I start it up I see a critical exception error and then the game just quits out. Not a problem with my comp seeing as my old 9600 pro ran Farcry decently. I dunno what to do about the slowdown. I got 10956 3Dmarks in '03. As well the fps just don't take any hits even if i turn on AA/AF to the max in source, it's still the same, fast in cramped areas, slow in open areas. In the Medal of Honor Pacific Assault demo i get weird corruption lines (looks like my card is fried).

My system is
P4 3.0 GHZ springdale socket 478
1024 Mb Ram (Kingston PC3200)
Gigabyte GA-8IPE1000(-L) Mobo
80 gig HD
300 watt PSU w/ 15 amps on the 12+
Course the X800XL
Cat 5.5 (Tried latest Omegas)

Is my card messed, or perhaps my system just dosen't like it. Any help would be awesome, thanks.

Yea, that 300w ps is probably hurting really bad with all that stress.

I would suggest you back everything up and do a full reformat if you havent allready, then come and tell us how the performance is. I dunno about the PSU though, 6800GTs which require more power can run on a 350w PSUs even a 300w PSU.

Unfortunatly I can't reformat at the moment, or I would have already done so. I can reformat in about two weeks, but by then my exchange policy on the card is gone :( Has anyone else had this problem, I've heard of people who getting 70+ fps on CS:S with the same card as me, I know the PSU is under a lot of stress, I'm thinking about getting a new one. I keep getting random restarts and the like. Question for that though, With my system, but with my old 9600 pro, would the 300w PSU be enough to power it? I've done some calcultations but i'm not too adept at those. Also something i didn't mention before, i've done the checks for spyware/viruses and defraged. I have no idea what else I can do now.

Random restarts? This is a serious pointer to either heat or a power supply problem. 300W is just far too tiny, especially for a P4. Swap a new one in and see how it goes.
