I have been looking on here, and was wondering what everyone thought on the differance between the X800 XT Plat vs the 9800 Pro 256. I have a P4 3.2 gig with Hyper on it, and only a AGP port, but the X800s that I have been seeing runs 500 bucks, so I don't konw if the preformance is worth it! I have been running a 9700 Pro for a long time, since they were about 400 beans and it plays all my games fine, but I have had it do more and more weird things as time goes on, so, replacment time.

Any suggestions, prices and such?

Dennis

In a head on comparison of power, the x800 is the clear winner. If 200 or so dollars is your price range then dont bother with the 9800 pro as it is horribly over-priced right now. Go for a 6600 gt or 6800 nu (if you can afford one).

Well, I think I am thinking of the X800, but there are several differant flavors. Sapphire on Newegg has just the X800 for 281, vs the X800 XT for 413!

I can see 300 bucks, but does the XT do that much more ?

Is there a site, or link that shows the model comparisons?

^^^ a 6600GT or a 6800nu is not a good upgrade from a 9800Pro at all.

I went to the xt-pe from a 9800Pro and the difference was awesome. Games like FarCry, HL2, Doom3, PainKiller, Joint Operations, BFV....etc, all playable with max eye candy, 1280x1024 and 4xAA/16XAF. Super sweet. Even older games like Postal2, Soldier Of Fortune 2, GTA: Vice City, and Elite Force 2 run better with more eye candy and lots higher frames.

The X800XT-PE is worth every penny if you can get it for retail or less. $499.99 max. Do not overpay, just work hard and you'll find one.

Yeah, an XT PE will blow a 9800Pro AWAY. Try running Far Cry at 1600x1200 6xAA/16xAF, max detail on a 9800Pro. You won' be able to play. An XT PE does it at around 60FPS.

if you are curently using a 9700 Pro, defo forget the 9800XT. Dont get me wrong, its a damn good card, but throw an AGP X800XT PE in there & u really are going to fly.

The X800 has 16 pipelines & the X800 XT PE is TWICE the FPS of a 9800 Pro.

The 9800XT has a tweaked GPU over the 9800 Pro, as well as 256Mb ram. The 9800XT has a different architecture to its lesser sibling, the 9800Pro.

ATI have now done the same to the X800 Cards. The X850 is a Modified GPU core with a slightly enhanced architecture, just as they did with the 9800XT. The only bummmer is the X850 cards are PCI Express only.

I say get the X800 XT PE only to justify the outlay. If I was spending that much dosh, you'd be as well having the Top Banana card for that little extra outlay.Nice review here:

and apparently, this particular X800 XT PE absolutely r0x0rz:

*edit...saw an NV 6800GT at a LAN last week. Doom 3 was impressive but all the other current D3d games like HL2 were utter laggy cr*p. Imho, Doom3 is Pants anyways...locked at 60fps...ffs!

hes upgrading from a 9700 pro and I said "if 200 dollars is your price range" because he considered the 9800 pro as an upgrade path. I kind of didnt finish my post, because I was called away from my computer, so it looks like I was making a frivolous reccommendation (9700 pro to 6600 gt sounds a little odd to me) so heres the rest of it: The x800 xt is a much better card than the x800, but whether or not its performance justifies the price difference is subjective. Lucky for you ATI provides a comfy middle ground known as the x800 pro which if im not mistaken is around 400 bucks.

Well, I found the X800 for 280, the X800XT for 413 and a X800XT PE for 476

They are all refurbs, the first two are Sapphires and the last is a Connect3D?

Between these three cards? Whata all think?

lol, where did u pull that from? 6800nu was a mad upgrade from 9800pro. my 3dmark03/05 scores increased over 100%, not to mention much faster fps in games. n 9800pro(it was actually [h]modded 9800se with bios flash) was oced high with zalman 80c n fan. :p

The X800 XT can get more than two times the fps depending on settings and game:)
Don't bother trying to get the XT-PE, its alot more(because its rare) and not alot faster, and you can very likely hit XT-PE speeds if you so desire.
