Just picked up a x800 pro. Knew anything more then that would be overkill for my cpu since its just a lowly 2600xp now wasnt to long ago that chip kicked butt. Anyways went from a 9800 pro and so far Im pissed off. My 3dmark01 went up from about 14,000 to about 15,000 and I know it doesnt mean much using 3dmark. Doom 3 saw signifigant gains in the timedemo 1 went from 17.3 fps to over 35. Reason i say the x800 rocks without having the pc for it is i can now turn on 6xaa and 16x af and still pull out about 12,000 in 3dmark 01

So now that ive got a kickass vid card again its time to do something about that cpu. Ive got a pretty decent rig dual raptors in raid 1 gig kingston mem 250 gig hd 80 gig hd dvd burners the works. So im thinking I can just get a p4 or amd64 and a new mobo and use all the stuff i already got. What do you think is a good pairing up with this vid card that will let me not have my cpu be a bottle neck and also not be to expensive Id like to spend around 500 on both mobo, cpu and a new sound card.

And would anyone be intrested in buying the asus a7n8x deluxe and xp 2600 im running on now just mobo and cpu. The board is rev 1.1 and does not like 200 fsb

this is the wrong part of the forum for mobo/cpu questions. if you're interested in selling something make a fs/ft post here.

lol that's the system I have.. weird, I get 18.5k in 3dmark 2001 with everything overclocked like crazy though. With everything stock I get around 17k flat. Hmm...

Yours is faster cause your overclocking. My fsb is 166. Board wont do 200. Plus I dont belive in overclocking I prefer absolute stability over a few fps. Been looking at newegg at the 3.2e p4 its like 245 bux. Is there any reason to get a 875 board over a 865? I dont plan on upgrading past this point so the lga 775 dont intrest me my next rig will be in a year and will be from the ground up. What is a good intel mobo? I would love to go amd but they have become intel as far as thier pricing goes. Plus I havent had a intel system since the 300a days.

He said at stock speeds he scores about 17k. btw, the point of overclocking is to get extra performance while still maintaining the same 'absolute' stability.

Mine is absolutely stable.. I can play any game for as long as I want, I can run prime95 for at least 10 hours.. not too long but long enough for me because I usually stop it :D. It's the most I can get for what I have.

Wow I had no idea the 64's were that much stronger in gaming. Is that across the board or is it just doom3?

it's pretty much across the board. lol. keep in mind they won't make as big as a difference if you like to play with large resolutions/more iq settings.

an a64 3000+ would be a great cpu for your x800pro though, it would be a pretty nice upgrade.

with a p4 3.0 Oc'd to 3.9 I am at a hair under 25000 with a x800 pro..

also it beats any stock cpu on the market in power including fx53.....

this still should be under ATI subforum...

the thing is i dont think he wants to overclock any

(and its not fair comparing your p4 oced to a stock athlon, those can oc too ;D )

as to the a64 performance vs a p4, they each have their strong points, but i think its safe to say only the "EE" pentiums can stand up to the A64s and only in a handful of benchmarks, otherwise the athlons pretty much rule the roost

Any reason to go with a 939 opposed to a 754? And is everyone going the way of via with amd now or is nvidia still the stronger chipset maker?

Here is the way to look at it.

Any 754 pin A64 w/ 1mb cache will pretty much keep up with the A64 939 pin chips because they only have 512kb cache.

I'm sure sooner or later the dual channel ram will come into play, but it is not showing up quite yet.
