I got a good deal on an Asus X800 Pro Vivo so i bought it and it arrived today. this is the first time i have used an X800 series car, but i have had 4 6800 series cards. Here are some questions i have

Do X800s have build in temp monitors like the 6800s? I didnt see it in the display properties....

What should i be getting in 30d3 and 3d05 with an A64 3000+ with cpu and video at stock speeds?

Which drivers are the best to use? i have the 5.10s installed without the catalyst right now.

The card i had directly before this card was a PNY 6800nu.... so far in CS:S the X800 pro seems to lag a bit more than the 6800nu but perhaps i need to tweak things a bit....

As soon as i get the aftermarket cooler on this im going to see if it will do XT PE speeds and then attempt the bios flash to XT PE.

I have the exact same card and CPU

1. yes they have temp reporting but you need to use ati tool
to see them. the tool will also show if pipes are unlocked.
2. at stock I remember getting 4800-5000 on 05
now getting 6561 .

3. I am using the 5.9 cats without any problems.

I am using the stock asus cooler and temps have maxed at 70c under load.
avg 36c at idle.
here is the linkage for the flashutility and new bios you need to get this card up to speed

its really easy to do . but follow instructions to the letter. best to print em out first.
linkage.

Alright thanks for the info! Yeah those instructions look really easy, im pretty familiar with flashing cards anyway. I flashed all of my 6800s and the 9800 pros i used to have.

Oh what are the stock speeds on an X800XT PE..... 520/540?

ATI X800 Pro VIVO 16P (AGP) 256 MB May 11th 2004 10:27 PM Aug 12th 2004 6:40 PM 475 / 450 Samsung 1.6

is the bios found here that
i used. this opens the extra 4 pipes but retains. the stock speeds for the pro,
which means you can run card stock anytime then use ati tool to jack it up for 3d games etc.

what does it mean if after the flash atitool still says 12 pipes? the card i have wont unlock the other 4 pipes?

during the flash you have to do the -newbios thing this is what caused mine to fail until I reread the instructions. on the page i linked to.

"just add -newbios to the command-line switches to disable "Preserve BIOS settings". "

can you flash an X800 Pro Vivo to an X850XT PE if it can handle the speeds? Im thinking no because they are different cores?

Nope, you can only flash it to a x800xtpe. <--- which isnt bad AT ALL..
The x850 has a completely different core.

yeah Im definetly happy with flashing it to an XT PE. so far with stock cooling it will run 3d03 @ 580/600... im really surprised that this refurbished card does so well.

Correct, X800 = R420, X850 = R480. If the card is stable at the higher frequencies, you may be able to mod your X800 BIOS to have it boot at the X850 frequencies, but that is as similar to an X850 as your card is going to get.
