i was wondering whether i should get the x800pro/xt or 6800gt/ultra and which company makes the best version

im leaning toward the 6800gt but have read on other forums that the x800s both have better potential but the drivers are holdiong them back.if thats the case then i wiould want to one that would preform better as teh drivers are updated and would get better as time goes on.

i am coming from a TNT2 so anything would seem great, but i want to get the best preformer.

i will play game like
half-life2
warcraft3
mostly FPS and RTS maybe a few RPG here and there

it all depends on your budget. the 6800GT can easily be overclocked to ultra speeds. the X800XT wouldve been my choice but they were very rare when i was deciding on a card when i was buying one. dont quote me on this but the X800XT is pretty damn fast in every game thats out and will supposedly perform better in half life 2 than the 6800 series will. this is just speculation since the game isnt out publicly yet. you can get the 6800GT for around $400 and the X800XT is around $500-$550. the choice is yours. just depends on what game you want to play.

How about u use the handy search option available on the forum and stop posting shit thats been posted and answered a million times b4??

I don't mind newbies asking these type of questions but when a veteran or well informed guy ask these type of questions are lame.

Based on the games you list, you won't go wrong with either the X800 or NV40. Both will give great gaming.

god im tired of people bitching when they think a post is stupid, it happens on every single forum, never fails to make me mad either.

as some one stated if u dont think a post is worth answering then dont asnwer by telling them to search or read stickies, it might not be there so unless ur a mod dont say anything.

back on topic... i think im gonna get the x800xt because its just a slower PE and i could just overclock the difference. now i need to know what company makes a good version of the card

just wondering what your going to be putting this in seeing that you comeing from a TNT2

I have that card, it's not VIVO, granted I didn't get it from Newegg. If it's a vivo it will say vivo.

If your flash is successful make sure you have plenty of cooling. I had artifacts on my x800vivo flashed to 16 pipes running at 500/520 worse at 520/560. There x800 pro's for a reason.

If you need to get a card today get the 6800gt. If you can wait a month or so get the x800xt.

Well I've got the X800Pro and the 6800GT. The GT is the faster of the two and overclocks to Ultra Speeds without issues. I couldn't unlock my X800Pro wouldn't unlock the extra pipelines.

As far as drivers holding the X800's back I kind of doubt it. Think about it. Theres nothing really new about the architecture of the X800 series. Whereas the Geforce 6 series is a whole new core and architecture with more advanced features and is already fast as hell. I think this is the core that can really grow. I think the X800's are pretty much at their design limits in terms of what the drivers can do. The drivers for those cards were already fairly mature when released.

In fairness both companies have been producing great driver releases lately for the most part. But this time around I recommend Nvidia. I still recommend the 6800Ultra over the X800XT-PE. It's easier to find and I think has more potential. Not one game alone can really declare one card the overall winner.

6800 has Doom 3, UT2004 and the X800's will likely have HL2 and we know it's got Farcry.

If you can't afford the 500+$ for the X800XT-PE, spend 400$ and go with an evga/bfg 6800GT.

after looking at more benchmarks i think i am going to go with the 6800gt because it is cheaper and as you guys pointed out it has all new architecture as opposed to the updated x800s. i really dont mind playing games that do not have detail cranked up all the way. heck im playin cs at lowest settings with fps max set to 35 and getting fps in the teens at poitn and i dont mind, so it should be good for a couple of years down the road.

Make no mistake about it. The 6800GT can run with high resolution and AA and AF. My X800Pro doesn't. perform as well in 1600x1200 as my 6800GT does.

now i like teh evga abd bfg cause they both have farcry bundled

what other cards have games bundled to change my decision from on of those 2 that are not over $400

im really cheap about video games, i just dont like spending $50 everytime a new game comes out that i want to play so i have not bougt a game since warcraft 3: frozen throne. but when i get a job (only 15 now) ill buy more games so i want a killer card to play any game i want for a long time to come.

If your worried about the included bundle don't go PNY, you get virtually nothing with it. I only bought it because it's a good card and I get a serious discount on them.

BBA is one of ATI's video card vendors.

VIVO is video in, video out right? Kind of the older All in Wonder type setup? Do the VIVO cards include a TV tuner?

And 1 last question: Does Nvidia offer anything like VIVO in their 6800 series cards?

Thanks
