My trusty x800 that sits in my 2nd PC/Fileserver is dying and making the noise from hell. Seems that the Artic Silencer 5 was the compatible model, but it's discontinued. Anyone have any suggestions or alternatives? This will be my first stab at replacing a GPU cooler, and not trying to overclock, but I am looking forward to giving this a shot and learning something new (and no big expense if I screw it up).

well why would you want to overclock a video card in a file server

cuz youre [H] :D

Actually answered my own question, seems the Zalman vf700 is the one that will work. Would all you [H] folks concur with this choice, and how difficult is this to install? I've done CPU coolers (either stock or Zalman's).

Why don't you try the Arctic Cooling Accelero S2? Only $17 at Newegg and is silent.

If you are just using this as a file-server, you could also just buy any budget vga card and throw it in there.

I actually game on it occasionally, and I think this will be a good learning experience. So if I do botch it, then I can go budget. Also checked the AC site and it doesn't show up on it's compatibility list for the X800.

I guess the vf700 would suffice but the vf900 is much better. It's more money, though.

I looked at it briefly and it does appear to be supported. Everything from x300-x850.
