X700 Pro Crashing

Hi, I recently upgraded my agp radeon 9500 pro to an agp x700 pro and it seems to be crashing. In 3dmark 2000 (all the other 3dmarks seem to run fine) in the first demo (the helicopter one) it runs fine for 2 seconds, then it pauses, then displays a frame 5 seconds later, and does it again, then after about 10 seconds it runs perfecty fine, it does this also for the second demo, always the exact same way at the exact times. Also, when I play need for speed most wanted, after a few minutes of play it completely freezes and im forced to do a hard restart, it seems to crash faster when it is slightly overclocked (+30 or so mhz) I've tried catalyst 5.11 and 5.8, reinstalling via 4 in 1, disabling fastwrites and agp 1ws write/reads. Specs: Athlon xp 1600+, 768 pc2100, biostar m7vib with kt266, 550 watt power supply, windows xp professional. Any help is greatly appreciated.
 
If possible, install the card in another computer. If it does the same thing then you know your card is messed up and its RMA time
 
Somehow I fixed the 3dmark thing by changing 16 bit color to 32 bit, and after playing around with some catalyst compatabilty settings and installing via 4 in 1 again, need for speed hasn't crashed, very odd.
 
Hmm it still doesnt sound right. I have a x700 and you should be able to run at 32 bit.
 
I have had a few problems changing out video cards on VIA chipset motherbaords. Drivers don't uninstall well. Boot into safe mode and use drivercleaner. I couldnt get my 9600pro to work on my kt800 asus board until did this.
