First, here is my system specs :

AMD 3400 x64
1.5 gig of Kingston PC 400 ram (running at 333FSB cause my board is weird)
Asus K8N-E Deluxe Motherboard
BFI Tech 7800 GS OC, 256 meg AGP x4
120gig 7200 SATA HDD (WD, I believe)

Here's the clincher
Dell 2405FPW monitor running 1920x1200 resolution.

I had this system and I had a 6800 Ultra video card in there, I replaced the videocard and only saw a very small upgrade in FPS. What's the next step in PC evolution? Does upgrading to a dual core / duo core processor make THAT much of a difference? Will I "unlock" my ram and videocard performance by switching to dual / duo core?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thank you,
Mark Sparks

your still running a 754 system.youll need to upgrade to a 939,am2 or a core c2d intel.your looking at spending some cash.your 754 system with the right video card should run most games fine still.
it all depends on what you want to spend now.dual core for gaming now makes little difference.you may want to look at the posts on 754 boards and see what your problem is if you arent ready to spend qiute abit of money.
if you are going to upgrade now am2 or c2d would be the way to go.am2 is still the best bang for the buck and very upgradeable for the future.dual core and quad core also available for it.
if you want to keep your ram then 939 is your option with dual core, and also what kind of a video card are you running now?
seriously with 1.5 gigs of ram and a 3400 cpu and a high line video card your system should run very well.maybe all you need is a good o/clocking motherboard.also your ram will default to 333 with 2 doublesided sticks installed.its the cpu memory controller that does this.there are still some good 754 boards around for o/clocking.you may be able to spend 100 bucks and have a system your happy with.
