Are there any other x58 users out there who have refused to upgrade? I'm still running my MSI Big Bang XPower board with a hexacore Core i7 980x + 24GB triple channel memory + 1070. This setup remains rock solid to this day (knock on wood) and is great for 1920x1200 gaming. yes, it sucks the juice and doesn't have all the integrated bells and whistles, but I just can't bring myself to upgrade. I purchased a SATA3 controller + Samsung 950 pro and while it's not as fast as the newer interfaces, it still makes windows 10 fly.

So.. any other fans of this platform out there?

Was running an X5650 setup with a 1080 Ti for a while, great setup and the CPU really hold its own. Upgraded to a Ryzen 1600 setup but the upgrade wasn't that big for the cost of CPU/Mobo/Memory. Upgraded to 8700K finally and that was definitely worth the extra $250 over the Ryzen coming from X58. Would recommend.

My x58 is still running, but it's not my primary rig any longer. 920 I used to have OCed to 4.0, although i've since dialed it back to 3.6 just because it ran so hot.

Amazing how long it's still holding on though.

Still have mine running also. Getting time to let the 980x and x58 board goto a new home though. It is still a great rig. I just don't like the power draw and heat from it now.

Still rocking a pair of x5670's on x58's big brother , the 5500 server chipset. Its finally time though that I looked at replacing it. No real reason but after 9 years its getting on and at some point something will go pop

Yes. I am running two Dell T3500s with X5687 CPU as gaming systems. Not going to win any benchmark races but they are still quite relevant with RX 480 and GTX 970 cards. Have re-purposed a couple of these same systems for others who run Oculus VR with addition of USB-3 cards.

After doing some research online. I wanted to see how the X58 and my X5670 compared to Ryzen. From what I can see in single thread application a 4.4ghz Xeon is about on par IPC wise to a 4ghz X1600/1800.

now when it comes to Multi-thread Ryzen woops its butt of course, but the Xeon isn't no wimp imo.

Just remember the Xeon X56** are 32nm, they aren't slow at all once your clock them up.

Oh its no slouch but on the sever boards you can't overclock so 3.2ghz is all I can get

Glad to see I'm not alone! Such a solid platform and reinforces my decision to spend a little extra back in the day.

Retired my primary X58 / 920 D0 rigs for 4770Ks a few years back,
but still have a few decked out HP Z800s and Z600s around doing MT workloads (Z800 = dual X5690s, Z600 = dual X5675s)

Yep, still running my rig with an X5670 at 4.2. I don't do much these days, and find absolutely no reason to change at the moment.

I have two 6c/12t xeon’s, 6 16gb and 8 8gb sticks off ecc ram. I need an atx/eatx mb for them.
