x58 heatsink compatability?

i have recently purchased a gigabyte x58 extreme motherboard with 12gb g-skill Pii memory (has a tall heatspreader) and was wondering what the best heatsink would be?
that is i mean compatable with all DDR3 memory slots filled?

i was looking at the thermalright 120 black edition with push'n'pull fans...would that accomadate this board with memory as some people here in threads dating back in 2008 complain it doesnt but since i have a haf 932 case cant i just turn the the heatsink so its blowing upwards instead of the rear fan in the case...just a suggestion as i have been recomended the heatsink in a few forums other than this and the black would go with the layout in my case...

many thanks

If spacing is anything like UD4P, should be fine. Might require installing memory first.

if it doesnt fit with all 6 memory slots filled would the corsair all in one water h50 do?

*i7 o/c to 3.8ghz

h50 would fit and cools just as good as the better heatsinks. just look at ur air flow config 1st since the rad should be drawing fresh air into it.

yeh iv seen the wacky sketch and review showing cold air being sucked into case via fan:D

iv got a haf932 case and front and side fans would have to blow in cuz my build is based on tri-sli cards so has anyone or is it possible to have he fan blowing the other way (out of the case) with another fan on other side for push pull effect???
i think that would work better in my opinion:D

from what i can make out the the reviews for heat sinks never make it clear whether they will fit on a m/board with 3 or 6 ddr3 sticks and as such most people recommend them like the thermalright under the presumption your only using 3 sticks so 1st slot is alwasy used by the spu cooler...why do they give you 6 ddr3 slots when they make and design the cpu coolers for only 3 to be used? weird?:D

anyway the thermalright does fit but the fan has to be placed on the back rather than front so as a pull air from heatsink and out rear fan than push and from so articles this can lead to a loss of 30-50% efficency compared to push/pull and push :(

so im gonna keep as spare since i had it lapped and buy the highly rated h50 from corsair which as the last person asked is also really good for small tight cases just as long as there is a space for a 120mm fan/radiator and you have fans with air going in and out of the case youll be fine.

apparently does 4g i7 a around 75c as seen in a few tests :D looks good.

True, as described in my sig, the Noctua C12P HS stops me from using heighted DDR on the nearest slot
Performance is still bad : with stock frequency, i7 during OCCT load Cores goes beyond 82C, NB 77C, SB 55C
Will clean & re-apply TIM however I beleive best OC may be reach with WC in my rig

What about your NB & SB temp since you are using H50 ?

sorry m8 i havent got the h50 yet as they are in lmited supply but corsair has mentioned large stock arriving very soon as in nextweek or week after ....

and im puzzled as to why your south and north bridge are so hot??

yo havent got anything major in your spec such a quad or tri sli and north bridge shouldnt get so warm as the memory cotroller is in the cpu now which is main reason boards before x58 i7 were cooled...(x58 i7 dont require fans on north bridge)

you C0 i7 is a hot one and you have to be really lucky to get high o/c that why i went D0.

but as i said it is possible to o/c a i7 to 4ghz with corsair H50 judging from loads of different reviews but they are using mostly D0 from what i can make out.

but with C0 you may have to give in to watercool :(

My setup is the issue ! just add into a tiny case: a fanless GPU , a fanless MB + an i7 , you get a nuclear station -;)
I cleanned & re-applied TIM : not better with the Noctua C12P ( may try again with MX-2 )

However I'm now testing out of the case, IOH & ICH temps are much better (62C & 50C), Core goes from 42 up to 72C. Noctua's HS fan is also pulling air to this 3 components

I have been able to clock @ 200 x 133 Mhz with no freeze. Core temp 52C when idle

To conclude, my issues are first the case (which I love so much), second the CPU HS
One of these two has to die -;)

So I tried another TIM : the Arctic Cooling MX-2, that I compared with the Noctua NT-H1
I don't find much differences between them, however MX-2 gets a bit lower when CPU idles

Here are the results, using a 12'' OCCT test @ standard clock, speedstep & hyperthreading ON
