Hey guys. Looking for some input on upgrading my gpus. Ive got a i7 980x gulftown cpu coming.

Presently running 5850 xfire on h20. Got a 4ktv and I'm looking for some gpu recommendations. I'm looking to keep my water loop and have a pc power and cooling 750 watt psu.

I'm thinking r290 xfire.

Any other opinions?

Forget about using crossfired R9 290s with a 750W PSU.

Aside from that, you can't go wrong with the aforementioned R9 290s or SLI GTX 970s.

I thought those cards were only about 250W each

I'm sure others will chime in but I think a 750W PSU, while pushing it, will be adequate, at least at stock speeds.

What is the exact model of the PSU? It really depends on the 12v rail amps.

AMD rates a single 290 at 33a.

I agree with what you wrote, but the operative words are "at stock speeds".

Start OCing those R9's and power consumption will go up fast. Since the OP is planning to water cool them, I have serious doubts that he's planning on running them at stock speeds.

Yeah highly oced 290 cards along with that Gulftown cpu at 4.0 would certainly be a power consumption hog that would push that 750 watt psu pretty hard especially if it already has plenty of years of use on it.

r9 290 cf overclocked to about 1100mhz on each card will eat just shy of 800w on their own. remember that the 290 will need more voltage to hit 1100mhz than the 290x. under water they should do 1200mhz. my own x58+980x+stock 290x cf setup ate just over 900w.

to op, the article you linked states that you need at least an 800w psu for 290 cf so i don't see how you can think you'll be ok.

That would be great! SLI 970's are an option for more cash and more performance, up to you.
