Hey there!

So i'm basicly going to order new hardware. The only problem is, which memory to use.

I'll be upgrading to an Rampage IV Extreme since i've gotten used to using that particular board branding. The board will be paired with a Intel 3930 CPU, looking at an overclock, say - 4.5ghz.

That being said, i'm curious to what RAM i need to go for. I see the majority of OC'ers with these items going with a quad 16gb G.SKILL setup.

Alot of the overclockers run very low Hz. (Ranging from 600-900Hz approx.)
Is it really important to how low you go? (Performance wise)

-Say 1600-1333-900 and downwards.

And yes. I know there is alot of threads about with almost the same question.
But none of them seem to correct my question properly. :confused:

A couple of considerations;

My personal experience is that the RIVE doesn't care for high Mhz RAM much. I have 2400Mhz sticks in mine but can't get anywhere close to that speed.

If you may ever use air cooling, which probably would not be wise since this form factor requires cool, you will HAVE TO USE LOW PROFILE sticks. Obviously, if you're water cooling or phase chilling the height of the sticks doesn't matter.

Corsair or G.Skill is what I normally go with, but the 1600Mhz Samsung low profile stuff is pretty amazing too :)
 
Oh, yes - I'll be watercooling my CPU.
And yeah, i've seen some good stuff about the Samsungs.

But still clueless to what really is the "Brand of the brand".

In my book, THE brand is Corsair, but, I've had good luck with the other two I mentioned as well
 
I currently run the first rising kind of the CA Dominator ram. They are pretty good.
Would like some more insight.

RAM speed and latencies don't add much in the way of performance on that platform, I would just get the Samsung personally unless you care about the looks. Spend the extra budget in other areas that actually add performance.
