What is the difference between the upcoming X48 motherboards and P45 motherboards? (using with a Q945)

I know X38/X48 is Crossfire, but are P35/P45 SLI?

none of them support sli

the x series chipsets are their 'performance' chipsets, while the p series chipsets are 'mainstream'

P35 can not do SLI and as of yet, there is no official word on P45 at all and what it can or can't do. I seriously doubt SLI is going to be offered on it.

if you want Intel plus SLI you have to go with the D5400XS and at least one Xeon processor. .

I plan to go crossfire with a one or two cheap ATI 3870 as the ATI 4870 and 4870X2 have some awesome specs. So SLI is not an issue. Just was not sure what the difference between the upcoming X48 motherboards and P45 motherboards was. I was looking at the Gigabyte X48-DQ6 as it is DDR2. LGA 775 is soon over with Intel's next gen CPUs so DDR3 is not worth it now. Anyway, I've been waiting for the Q9450 to be released since Jan, 08. So as soon as I have it, I guess I would go with the X48 as I hear the P45 won't be out until mid year I hear.

P45 if I understand correctly does x8/x8 crossfire. Not sure that P45 really is bringing
anything new outside of PCIe 2.0 support over P35 (excluding the improved crossfire
support). The only area I can think of that would see noticable improvement is DDR3,
but I am not really sure that the P45 would be the first choice for a DDR3 setup anyway.

The Gigabyte X48-DQ6 uses a ICH9R Southbridge. I guess the ICH10R will offer faster raid speeds?

The P45 is 8x/8x pci-express 2.0? That kind of sucks, no? The X48 is full 16x speeds for both slots.

Anyway, doesn't seem it is worth the wait for the P45.

^ That still equals 16x PCIe 1.1 speed, which works cards like the 8800ultra with no clinching effects...

I left that out. No, the Gigabyte X48-DQ6 X48 is full PCIe2.0 at 16x speeds for both slots.
