what are your opnions on the obm thinkpad x40? I juyst recently purchased a well upgrded t42p and was thinking about returning it and saving alot of money by getting the x40. I was thinking that with an x40 i could just not try to play any games or stuff on it. is a 12 inch screen really that bad? what about the 1.2 ghz ultra low voltage chips?
I guess since ill just use it for the internet/email/word proccesing/playing music it should be ok. What if I was to use my home 802.11g wireless network to upload some dvd movies to it.would it play them?

my cousin just got the 1.2Ghz x40, and it's awesome, if you want ultraportable. Plenty fast, and yes, i'm sure it'll play the movies fine. It plays Quake 3 rather well, although these days anything plays that game well. The 1.3Ghz is available now just so you know...and i would recommend the extended battery, ~4.5 hours life.

The problem i have is that i would have to give up my 1.8 ghz dothan for it, but thinking moire about it i may not need it. i even saw one that came with a cd rom drive( probly in a detachable dock but still good)the one i have now was about 3 grand, i could save a grand by switching.... anyone else know?

The X40 is exceptional. I have had mine for 2 months now with no complaints.

Don't be woried about the screen. I do a lot of coding and not once have my eyes hurt because of it.

Specs in sig.

I'm running a T42P and an X31....I'd love to get an X40 instead of the X31....btu it wasn't an option.

if you're not worried about gaming, I'd say go for it.

I ran exclusively on an X30 for 8 months, and was very happy with it.

the X40 will give you everything you need if you're not gaming. (I'd look at mapping a CD drive over the network; that will suffice for 95% of what you need).

if you're doing a DVD, and don't need it that often, look into a PCMCIA powered DVD (Targus makes them, you can find them on ebay for <$50). the X40 will be more than powerful enough for DVDs. You should be able to play Ut2004 as well, but at low resolution & quality. (I bought my girlfriend an X30, which has the 830g video, which is less powerful than the 855g video on the X40, and it played fine.)
