X4 830 overclocking

Well I did not see a guide and I have no clue what all is involved when overclocking a AMD cpu, the last cpu I did was a E8400 LOL.

I have a new x4 830 cpu which I put a x4 970BE huge heatpipe cooler on. I don't know what to expect here in terms of overclocking honestly but I figured i could get a little something out of this cooler since it is designed for a 125watt cpu and mine is only a 95 watt.

would be nice to get this thing up to 3.2ghz or more on this cooler. Any input would be appreciated
 
Increase the FSB. Adjust the RAM multiplier so that it runs at or below it's rated speed. Decrease the HT multiplier so that it stays as close as possible to 2000 mhz. Adjust the CPU-NB multiplier to bring it to around 2400 mhz. If your processor is unstable, increase the CPU voltage. You can probably get it to around 3.3 to 3.4 on the stock voltage.
 
easy way to do it...

drop the HT(hypertransport) multiplier to 5x, drop the ram down to DDR2 400mhz(200mhz).

once you have done that you can start increasing the HT reference clock(FSB) and cpu voltage to find your max overclock for the processor. once you have found your max cpu overclock, set your hypertransport back as close to 2Ghz as possible(you can exceed it by 200-300 mhz if needed. increase the ram multiplier so its as close to stock as possible.

doing it the way i explained it above you should have no problem hitting 3.4-3.5Ghz. your limitation will be due to the fact that your motherboard doesn't have the CPU-NB multiplier option.

things to keep in mind..
max voltage is 1.55v(you should not get anywhere close to this voltage)
max recommended temp is 70C.
 
Don't expect a lot of overclocking on this chip. It is the economy version. I was only able to get a few 100 MHz overclock.

then you did something wrong, lol.the 830 should easily do 3.5-3.6Ghz has long as your board has a cpu-NB multiplier control. if not it shouldn't hit the NB wall til about 3.4 maybe 3.5Ghz.
 
I got 4.5 ghz with one of mine. Water cooled.
Definitely doing something wrong.

What you wrote is able to help others that come along later just as much as the original poster.
 
regardless if it helps others it just annoying.... its along the same lines of someone asking for help in a thread and never responding or updating whats going on

or like one of my biggest peeves when someone digs up a year old dead thread and makes a post in it

Oh, right. Sorry. Stumbled onto this thread in my own research, saw the dates starting with 01 and forgot it wasn't 2012 anymore.
