Hey fellas,
I just invested in a X2 3800+ and i have rather high temps. I have an Antec SLK3700 with a 480watt true power PSU. 2 x 120mm front and rear case fans with an Arctic Freezer 64 HSF and a 92mm fan cooling my ram down. At idle on my current OC (2.4ghz @ 1.4v) my temps are around 48C and load with 1 core around 54c and with both cores around 64c. I have remounted my HSF about 5 times and used different types of compound including arctic silver 2-3-5 and arctic silver ceramique and they all come up with the same result. I am wondering if the Arctic Freezer is not the best choice of heatsink for a dual core? Cheers

EDIT: I should also mention that even at stock vcore and speed temps are only like 2-3c cooler which is worrying. My old 3000+ never hit above 42-44C load on the same motherboard
 
Since you re-seated the heatsink multiple times, I doubt you got it wrong every time. Sounds like the HSF you are running is inadequate for the X2. Did you get an X2 with stock cooler? What case is that, does it have good airflow?

My tiny H2O system runs my overclocked X2 at 47c load average, and idles at 32c. Your temps seem a bit high for sure....
 
Yeh i got a retail X2 3800+ but the HSF that comes with it is the puny stock aluminium one. So i havent even tried it.
 
I recently built a server around the x2 4400, and it came with an aluminum heatpipe hsf... pretty beefy.
 
I'm using the stock HSF that came in the retail box with my x2 3800+. My temps are at 48C idle and 56C load (2 instances of Prime95 running 'blend' tests).

Maybe that will help give you another point of reference.
 
not all temperature sensors tell the same story...

my X2 3800+ is cooled using a spare 3800+ HSF (non-X2) I had lying around... it get idles around 29-31 and peaks at 44 highest.

I'm using the DFI S-DR... it may be that your mobo reads higher than mine or anyone elses, or your room is really warm.
