X2 Overclocking power?

I was wondering if there are any X2's out there that can reach 2.8GHz on air? like XP-90, XP-120 type thing? and if not what is a resnable Air OC with X2's, thanks in advance

i have yet to see a 4800+ OC but the 3800+ and the 4400+ both hit around 2.6 to 2.75
 
the Opteron 170 would be one to try with and come in 939 flavor now
 
So if I want to overclock to aprox 2.8GHz with dual core on air, get an Opteron 170/175, Socket S939? what are the average overclocks on air with those, a google brought in posts saying about 2.8GHz, but I wanna hear it from a [H]ard member, also are opteron any slower than there x2 counterparts? Just wondering (this is talking S939 of cource)
 
I can't get my 4400+ to go anything over stock clock speeds. I have no idea WTF I am doing though.

I tried to OC my 7800GTX this weekend doing th coolbits mod and yeh that didn't work out well. This OC stuff confuses the crap out of me.

I think 2.8GHz on air is unlikely, but what do i know. My 3200+ seems to top out at 2.55 (1.50V).

lets put it this way, I'm not scarred of Volts, because of 2 things, A not planning to run it (overclocked anyways) for more than 2 years and 2 I'm gonna be using a PC&P 510 Power Supply (gotta love only 0.5% divation from spec :D) for this build, I'm planning this build to be maximum performace that one can get without spending more that about 3000$ (with a pc I already have that I can canablize parts from) its for a friend, but god damn it if I'm gonna skimp, as while hes paying for it, were roommates and I will use it more than him anyways :p, once again we wanna use AIR and ONLY Air so do not try and convince us otherwise.

i have a 4800+ that I am working on and so far my first attempts on water only got me up to 2.7 ghz, that was on 1.4 volts, I will send more to it later.
 
2.8 is possible but you'd be very lucky... Mine will go up to 2.6 and even boots into windows at 2.7 1.55v but is unstable at that speed.
 
It's really a crap shoot with X2 processors. The sad part is one core can probably do 2.8 while the other craps out at 2.6! So you're stuck at 2.6. But at that speed, who's complaining? :D

my X2 3800+ only does 2.4ghz stable in my a8n sli premium with 1.45v, im gonna RMA my DFI ultra-d soon to see how far itll go in that...
 
I kept trying and I am now up to 2760 mhz with water on my 4800+ superpi stable. Over 2800 mhz is possible but my PWMIC temp is so high (90 degrees C) that I will not allow it to finish testing.

I highly doubt this would be possible with air. These things get do damn HHHHOOOOTTTTT!!!!!
 
With my 3800+ Im running 1.504V 270FSB (1:1) x 10 Multi = 2700Mhz Dual Prime95 Stable.
I am running on air, Ninja Scythe Heatsink, 120x38mm High Speed Panaflo

I think 2.8 can be done (check my sig), but everything has to be right, motherboard, memory, chip. I am damn close, and could probably do 2.8 with better air cooling....more case fans, running faster.
 
I'm running 2.8Ghz on air with an XP90 but it is all in the luck of the draw! I have been reading other forum and would say average is about 2.5 to 2.6Ghz and the Toledo cores are slightly (I say slightly) better overclockers.

I think yor right on the power supply thing.

Last night i tried a real simple low end OC and it failed stability tests. 215MHZ FSB and a 2325 CPU Speed.

My PSU is and ASPIRE ATX-AS520W ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817148008 ) and from reading around thats not something I want in my PC so I am ordering something else ASAP. I should be able to get a decent OC out of this machine but can't seem to get anything with this PSU the volatges are so unstable.
 
I haven't yet attempted to clock mine up anywhere near that, but it's currently running at 2400MHz at 1.4 volts and idles at 33C. Which to me says I have some headroom. I just got everything reinstalled after my upgrades, so I'm going to wait a bit to push it up any further. (don't feel like doing any repair installs or anything like that yet)

yeah, that thing is a POS. get something from antec, fortron, enermax, PC p&c, OCZ, there are some others
 
I max out my 4400+ at 2700Mhz@ 1.470.... Anything behond that is impossible for my XP-120 to safely cool. 52C Load.. :eek:

I wanna know why people are getting 33c on their x2's when my 3800x2 idles at 39c downclocked to 1200mhz with an xp-90 and panaflow high fan with a 120mm exaust fan and the 3 psu fans. Your thermistors must be wrong on your boards or something. I mail ordered an NTC microthermistor from betatherm and actually put it between my pins on my 3500 and it never registered below 35c underclocked.

btw not all 3800x2 are hitting 2.5. mine will only do 2.3 at stock and 2.42 with high voltage increase.
 
are u using everest to read ur temps? cuz there a bug with the current version where ur cpu load goes up 50% when reading the sensors, they say it has something to do with the new gfx drivers

anyways, if this is the case try using speedfan to check ur temps http://www.almico.com/sfdownload.php

you sure its seated correctly? mine idles in the high 20's and low 30's in a 68F room.

with the voltage at 1.2v and stock clock speeds, an idle temp of 22c and load of 29c is not uncommon.

i have an SI-120 with 70cfm panaflo. the side panel is open.

you could also just have a hot-running chip.

mine does 2.5 with lots of volts, i have it at 2.4 with 1.45v, 100% prime stable.
 
Thanks for speedfan. I like that program. Both everest and speedfan show 1 degree off from each other. Plus I have a fan controller with temp sensors directly on the edge of the cpu and it shows within 3 degrees of the other 2. I think my CoolerMaster cavalier must have bad ventilation, despite only have 2 sata drives and no ide cables and nothing other than dvd and graphics card in it. Maybe that's why it was only $50 for this case. I've spent alot of time on this temp issue thing and I can only assume that it must be this case at this point as my 3500 idled just 2 degrees higher than the 3800x2 in the same system. I've begun to wonder if my xp-90 has a bad lathe on it too, but doubt that's it. Right now case is open with fans on high, cpu at 1200mhz, 78f ambiet temp and cpu idles at 33c (because open case/high fans of course).

Why are you undervolting your CPU? Its ment to be 1.35 stock..And close your case...Unless you like dust. :D

i was just having some fun, see how far down i could take it. it was 100% prime stable at stock speeds ( and up to about 2.15ghz) at 1.2v.

case is open cuase it doesnt have particularly good airflow. planning on getting a P150 soon.
 
I got my X2 4400+ up to 2670mhz with 1.45v, but was running around 58-60c under full load. I'm definitely not going past this without opening the case.

I went up to 240HTT, so 2640mhz. Sorry I was trying to remember when I posted. I was close with 2670 heh.

HTT Isnt your FSB. e.g. I run 270*10. 270HTT or 225FSB 5/6 (333) If your running 1/1 (400) then your FSB would be the same as your HTT... Not that it makes any difference anymore..

it seems that i have one of the coolest running 3800 X2's ive seen. Im running it with only a Coolermaster Hyper 6, 24/7 at 2.6Ghz 1.4Vcore and it idles at 27C and loads at 39-40C. Im sure i have alot more headroom, but i just havent gotten around to messing with it and its so fast already at 2.6 i dont feel the need to go faster...
 
nah, mine runs just as cool as that... just doenst clock as high :(

seems like the manchesters are actually running cooler than the toledos....
 
My system currently looks like this...

MSI k8n neo 2 platinum
2gb dual ddr 400 geil value
200gb sata
80gb ide

I just got my X2 and the K8n, everything else was from my old PC. I noticed at first that my ram was only being detected as single channel ddr333 not dual channel ddr400, I decided to leave it and carry on anyway. After doin a fresh windows install with all the latest drivers I ran 3dmark 05 and scored 6400.

Then I installed SP2 and this time I got a score of 6200. I have heard about quite alot of people gettin lower scores with SP2 so I was'nt bothered.

I moved the stick to the right slot and adjusted the bios settings so that it recognised it as ddr 400. Then I ran 3d mark and got a score of 5200!?

Wierd, but check this out.... I then overclocked my 4400@2.2 to a 4400@2.4. I set the HTT/FSB to 218 and the multiplyer to 11x and then ran 3d mark and got a score of .... 5200!? What's goin on!!??

Has anyone else had any wierd results like this? I know that with my specs i'm pretty sure I should be hittin over 6000 but I dont know why i'm not. Help!
 
My 4400 can boot Windows at 2750 but isn't stable, even at 1.7v and load temps approach 60c at that speed/voltage. I am afraid to go any higher on voltage.

It's rock solid stable (over 24 hours of various tests, no failures or any indication of any problems) at 2600 and seems pretty good up to close to 2700 - above 2700 is wher I break. 2600 @ 1.5v is great, close to 2700 needs 1.6v and gets in the 50s load temps.

This is my first X2 and I very carefully followed the overclocking guide to arrive at my numbers.

50 isnt bad id go with that realy its safe to have up to a 65c peak load temp

Yeah, what I meant was 240HTT and running mem divider at 333mhz, thus making my memory 400nhz effective. Asus bios doesn't have the fractions and I suck at math so I can't remember what that divider is, 5/3 maybe?

Going over this makes my room a friggin oven, my cpu over 60C and it just got warm again in Ohio. Damn global warming.
