Quick question, ignoring cost/power management/etc etc, which would be a better choice; an x2 card or two cards in SLI/Crossfire? Does one option or the other carry benefits as far as performance goes?

Generally, assuming that you're using SLI or CF of the same host video cards versus an X2 version of that host card, performance will be about the same.

I believe running 2 cards in CF would be slightly faster than an X2 version of the same card as X2s tend to run at lower core/memory clock frequencies due to heat management issues.

As far as I know, two cards will generally offer better performance, but the difference is pretty negligible. I think the real difference is usual in space, heat, and noise . . . areas in which a single card is usually superior.

Dual cards are generally better on noise, heat is the same (as power draw is approx the same). 2 fans running slower is much better than 1 faster fan.

Listen to vengence. My information comes only from what I've read. He has had hands-on experience, so he certainly knows better than me.
