X2/Bios Compatibility Question

I am planning on ordering an ABIT AV8 mobo, which supports x2 4400+ with one of the newer bios revisions.

My Question is if the Mobo comes with an older bios that doesn't support dual core will it detect the CPU as a single core until I flash it to the newer one? Or, will I need to find a single core processor to flash with then install the x2? Thank you.
