My X2 3800+ runs without errors at 2.5Ghz 1.520v in Prime95. I' m going to push it even higher because tems in Prime95 is only ~38C. But I need to know till what max voltage I can push X2 3800+ without fear?

I researched this extensively a month ago when I got my X2 3800+ andthe general consensus seems to be that you should keep the core voltage below 1.55v to avoid possible rapid degradation due to electron migration.

I currently run mine at 2.6ghz / 1.45v because I'm too poor to afford toasting a cpu right now. :p

With thermal diode everything is OK.
In "hardforum" I have found that nowadays cpus' are designed to run for about 10 years. What is your opinion: how much lifespan I can reduse going with high voltages 2.6-2.7v?

Eh, CPUs can run for alot longer than 10 years at stock voltage.

While I have no proof of this, other than various anectodal evidence I've come across on the internet, and from the views of various Intel researches that I know personally (and online)... I still believe it to be true. Keep a chip cool enough and it can take more voltage.

Electron migration starts to come into the equation at 1.6v and higher. This is something you really want to avoid. I'm sure you'd shave off a few years by going to 1.7v or higher.

The amount of years you lose depends on alot. Voltage can be seen like a human's addiction to a drug... Once you get used to it you need more and more. This is the case with processors. I've personally damaged a 3200+ A64 cpu that requires about 1.45v to boot even when underclocked. This was from running it at 1.65v 24/7 in my high school's computer lab for 3 years ( )

I' ll need my X2 3800+ only for ~2 years, till AMD realizes K8L. So for today I want from my X2 3800+ everything what it can do...

I would push it to 1.6vcore if it provides a good boost in speed... for $150 new and $120 used whats the big deal... and it will last fine enough unless you have a bad cpu already...

JMO, but keep temps below 50*

what the hell are your ambients that you get that kind of load temps

I get 36*C idle on water at 1.525vcore

you must live in antartica

I'm from Lithuania, not antarctica:)
At idle my cpu is ~28-30C and the ambient ~32.
I have no reason to lie...

Your thermal diode is lying.

You can't have sub ambient temperatures without active cooling.

I have tried to OC to 2.6Ghz at 1.65v, but Prime95 isn't stable:( Any suggestions?
P.S. I need info about LDT voltage. What does it do?

My X2 4400+ ran at 1.65v (DMM tested) 2.85Ghz for 18 months but was under watercooling. Still kicking in my HTPC. I ran it as hard as I could but kept it cool and all is well.

I will keep this chip fpr a long time. Time will tell if it got damaged at all by Volts. Temp was never an issue.

I have run Prime95 test at 2.52Ghz 1.535v. First time I get error at Test 5. When I run Prime95 second time (also at 2.52Ghz 1.535v) and didn't get any errors . How to understand that?
P.S at first tme I was searching in the internet... Maybe the internet have done any bad impact?

Hey Matas, you say you're running Prime 95... are you sure you're running it properly to stress both cores?

I would use SP2004 (Super Prime 2004) instead. It's based on the exact same code as Prime 95 but designed for dual processor/dual core systems. With SP2004 you can easily select which core to stress.

Also in either Prime95 or SP2004 make sure you are selecting the Small FFT (Stress CPU) test.

Ambient 24'c

Idle 28'c

load 34'c

Full and GPU load 36'c

Vcore 1.4825 @ 2.66 (bad ocing chip :()

I'm running the Small FFT. How to stress both cpu cores?

Get SP2004 which will do it, OR, make 2 seperate folders with P95 in each one. Start them both up and go.

Your temps are wrong, as others have noted.

My ambient is typically ~27c, my idle on my X2 3800+ at 2.6ghz is 31c-32c, load temp of 49c-51c. I live in a hot climate....and that is decent case cooling with a TT Typhoon. My vcore is also only 1.425....

If you have 32c ambient temps, I am betting your load temps are really at 55c or so, if not higher, your cooler is nothing super, although much better than stock.

As someone else said, with air cooling, it is IMPOSSIBLE to have lower than ambient temps.....

what's the cooling? 38c load seems a little low at 1.52v..

That temp seems way low. I'm getting 45 under dual prime 95 load with an SI 120 at 1.38 volts. What are you using to measure temps?

Everest and SpeedFan. The tems are correct, because the cooler heatsink is not hot during SP2004 or while gaming.
SP2004 runs stable at 2.5Ghz 1.520v, but 2.55Ghz is stable only at 2.65v. What is going with my X2 3800+?!

I completely agree. My ambient never exceeds 25 and my idle is around 33. You may not be stressing it correctly.

What is the difference between cpu temp1 and core temp in Speedfan 4.29?
At 2.4Ghz 1.488v running SP2004 cpu temp is ~38C. Core Temp Beta program shows that core 1 is always hotter than core 2. Running SP2004 core1 reaches ~55C and core2 ~50C.
Are these core temperatures normal?
