x2 3800 Overclocking Problems.

Ive been hitting a wall at a rather low freq OC for this processor.

x2 3800 W/ Scythe Ninja and a 50+cfm 120mm Fan useing AS5.
Thermaltake 680w PSU
Abit Kn8 Sli
2gb Corsair XMS
250gb Western Digital Sata
Geforce 6800gs PCIe

My stock temps are 32c Idle and 42C Full Load useing dubble Small size Prime95.

I dont know if this might be the problem but ive been trying with clockgen to do the overclocking and finalize the changes in bios when i find something stable.

Clocking the ram to full ddr400 speed and raiseing FSB i hit a wall at 2.3ghz where prime starts erroring out on only one core. Other core is stable. Wierd part is the core switches every time i run the test.

Clocking the Ram to ddr 266 spd i hit a wall at 2.35ghz where prime starts erroring out.

With either configureation i hardlock at 2.4ghz. Tried raiseing voltages very carefuly from 1.35 in as small of incriments as my motherboards bios allows. I raised the vcore in steps up to 1.410 and didnt want to persue further as there was No change in celing frequency from 1.390.

Im wondering if i could drop the multiplier from 10x and manage to raise past this celing as ive got plenty of headroom on my ram.

My 4400+ requires 1.5v to go over 2.42Ghz, but it's stable at 2.6Ghz (I haven't tried to go higher, and I don't like raising the voltage that much).
 
I had the same problem as you, I can't get my x2 3800+ past 2.35ghz without seriously raising the voltage (Something I'm not about to do on stock cooling)
What happened to the whole "hit 2400mhz on stock voltage" thing.....

If you get more than stock speeds (2ghz) on a 3800+ X2, you are getting a bonus. Stop whining. Most X2 38's will do 2.4 on stock vcore, but it is NOT guaranteed. And like another said, the overall speed of the HTT bus should be 1000 or lower (HTT multiplier x fsb setting) so at stock 5x HTT x 240fsb = 1200. Try dropping your HTT to 4x if you are going to run 240fsb, and maybe even 3x if you are shooting for 260+
 
Thanks Guys. Next Wensday ill try these options and see if i can get past this wall. I think its rocking that i can even get 2.3 outta this baby.

Yea, I am getting 2.4Ghz (on stock), although I havn't really tried to go higher, and I didin't know about that HTT thing so I could try to raise it higher with lowering that as right now its like set at 5xHTT (opsie, well its 100% stable, can run prime for like 8hours without erroring or crashing, and I can play Oblivion for like 12hours streight without comp errors)

Wierd stuff I set my multiplier to 3x and then got up to 2.6Ghz and booted into windows at least and its been running for like 3minites on prime (2instances both cores), although I'll let it be on for at least 1hour before I call it simi-stable.

EDIT: um it seems like I need a better cooling to handle 2.6Ghz good cause It was getting up to like 65C with 1.5Volts, so I backed it down to 1.375 volts and its only about 55 with both cores 100% load. still testing 2.6Ghz though.
