Just how hot are these things suppose to get?

I've hovering at around 65C idle and high 70s-low 80s under load.


I even took off the HSF and reapplied the thermal paste with some Arctic Silver too.
 
Force the fan to run 100% at boot (Rivatuner's bootup service (requires editing the config file to add the X1950's PCI ID, you can do that in the R580 field) works great for this; .960 version of Ati tray tools seems to trash the display even if all you do is try to change the fan speed, but the older .880 version with overclocking disabled works fine with the fan speeds) and then your idle temps will drop into the low 50's/high 40's.

The idle temps are so high because the fan is running at something like 800 RPM until the temps reach 80C...

While we're on that subject, maybe you can help me out.
How difficult is it to remove the heatsink and then reassemble it without mounting it wrong and blowing up the card? (I want to apply arctic ceramique). I heard the heatpipe assembly is in 3 sections or something and totally different than the old cards...
 
It's really simple... you just have to be careful about the thermal pads for the memory. It's pretty easy to tear.

That is the normal operating range for the X1950XTX.
 
There's a new atitool beta with x1950xtx support. I just got it last night and wow that fan is loud at 100%.

EDIT: I ran it for about 20min and the fan stayed at 50% and kept the temp mid to high 70s but it was like 60F in my room last night. I don't think the fan is going to have to work as hard on these since the cooler is much better than the x1900s.
 
which version of the tool did you use? The version I used, I can't remember which one, had the clock and memory settings all messed up.

I love atitool though and I hope they make x1950xtx support soon.
 
Forget using ATITool to force to 100% speed, just set ATITool to try to keep temps at 65 or so, then it'll only really rev. up when you stress it

where did you apply the artic silver on just the gpu? I assume you left the memory thermal pads alone?\

oh btw when you decide to OC the card let us know how it does

first thing I did when I got the card was reapply the thermal paste... and I resetted the thermal pads on the memory. Haven't tried OCing just yet.

That's not as bad as dual X1900XTX's in Crossfire mode. You want to talk about loud, it was hard to be in the same room with that.
 
So its ok to have the fan speed at 50%, i have it set on keeping the card at 70c

when its under 3d load its on average around 79 -81c :confused:
 
Dont worry, my fan only goes up to 70% at 82C and rarely do i hear it spool up. Only when i play for long periods of time when i hear spooling of the fan. My idle temps hover between 58C-65C.
 
Force the fan to run at 100%!?! Have you actually listened to it at that speed?!!


My card idles at about 65ºC when it's been sitting a while and about 68ºC when I exit a game. It loads at about 83ºC and the fan goes up to 56%, that's the highest I've ever seen it.

right now i have the setting in ATI tool set at "Try to keep GPU temp at 70%"

Fan speed around 87% running that 3d in ATI tool thats about right? temp at 78c
 
mine idles in the low 60's to mid 70's then load is around the mid to high 80's so you got nothing to worry about :)

I just got a Zalman VF900 from newegg yesterday. I CAN NOT believe how much better it is then the 1900XT's stock cooler!

I used to idle ~60-65c load up near 90ºc (its hot in my room). I thought that maybe this would keep the same temps (didn't really care how high they were) but be quieter. It not only made it silent (constant 100% fan speed direct to mobo and I can't hear it) but the temps are now 40c idle and I saw it briefly get to 68c load late last night.

Added bonus is those temps are 700/800 oc. I seriously can't believe how much of an improvement it is.

Not to sound like a fan:boy, its just that I'm excited about it! The stock cooler was the loudest thing in my case. Not I need to work on keeping the psu cool.

Yeah, the 1950xt/x coolers are a significant improvement over the x1900's. Glad you fixed yours though :)

I'm actually excited to go an stress out the oc, not having to hear it growl at me is awesome.

I was a little skeptical after all the reviews I read on newegg sounded totally off the wall about how great it is. Usually I see stuff like that and its people that don't want to admit they got scammed out of 30 bones, I want to buy another 1900 so I can do it again.

Man, do i sound like a geek. I gotta go slap some ho around or somthing
 
oh yeah... resurrection of my old thread... mine's still pumping away and enjoying life at those temps.

How hard is it to replace the HSF and what's involved in it? My x1900xt HSF is driving me nuts. Even at 18% it makes an annoying whining sound. :mad: And is VF900 single slot?
 
dont mean to hijack, but im curious to what ppls temps are on WC for 1900XTX? I will have mine setup as soon as my case ships..

Dude, it took me all of 10min I'd say, and I was taking my time. Hardest part for me was getting the stock cooler off, 4 of the screws are real small like bastards, didn't have a driver small enough, had to use a knife to get them out.

Ram sinks are easy, just get them straight on and good contact. Clean everything off with acetone or alcohol, use ceramique or as5 on the core, etc etc etc, follow the instructions, bla bla bla your done.

I did some temp testing last night. I could NOT get it to go above 62º load, even oc'ed to 650/750, stock voltages. It idles around 39-41. And I swear to god its silent at 100% fan speed. I LOVE it.

Not single slot, but neither was the old cooler.

my overclocked XTX idles at around 32-34C and loads at around 40-41C with a MCW60 and ramsinks...
 
my temps are around the same... 34-35 idle 45 at the very highest under load. :)
 
well, the X1950XTX and the X1900XTX have the same exact core, so they wont be any different...
 
The cooler on the 1950 cards are a little better, mind you your on water like me so it matters not. My danger den tyee keeps my x1950 xtx nice and cool.

Sounds good. Would articlean work well on the ram/core or should I use some 91% isopropyl alcohol that I have lying around for "injuries"?
