X1950Pro GPU Folding Results

Alright, I just received my X1950Pro from newegg and put it to the test. From the looks of it, with a slight overclock to 620/1550 from default 580/1400 it finishes each frame in about 8 mins give of take 5 seconds. Estimated PPD is 400 paired with 1 core of an E6300 at default clock speed. It seems that 1.86 is the bare minimum required to keep the GPU busy as core 1 hovers barely below 100%, usally 96 - 97. That said, if you OC the E6300 to around 3.0+, there should still be enough CPU processing power to keep a second CPU client busy. Oh, btw, heads up champs, the below systems are slowing coming online 1 BY 1!

 
I'm confused so maybe you can clarify.

1. All boards pictured are AGP8X yet the vid card is a PCI-E. How are you running the card on one of those 6300's and that board?

2. How many e6400's and 6300's are pictured?

3. When did being a student suddenly pay better than having a job? :D
 
Ahh, you have a keen eye. The X1950Pro is in my Asrock775Vsta motherboard along with an E6300, it's currently awaiting a Gigabyte S3 motherboard and 2Gb of the Crucial 10th anniversary ram for Ocing. Pictured are 4 cases, CPUs and 8X motherboards. 1 E6300, 2 6400 and 1 6600. I'll most likely be letting some of the E6300 go in favor of PentiumD 805 and an AGP X1600Pro combo instead. They would rack up more points IMO, what do you think?

maybe his student loan increased.. or he just dug himself a little more in the hole with his credit card.. lol. Either way, its for the cause! Fold on my in-debted friend! :D
 
Apparently I'm facing a possible suspension from my college... if it does comes down to that, I'll have to find me a ugly job and so on forth, I can assure you that 20% of my income would go towards folding though I don't want to get suspended.

Time'll tell.
Man, that was a wise choice, getting 4 new rig to fold for the compeition though... I've lost a borg, his bios died upon a reboot and it's going to be out of comission for eh 2-4 more days... Until then I'll just have to borg more computers to make up for the lack of his rig.
 
1. @ 8 minutes a frame that's 594 PPD not ~ 400.
2. My current, too lazy to test, is the CPU in a given system really don't matter that much. With a faster CPU, it's still gonna report 100% and your not going to be able to fold on the CPU anyways. 1.86 CPU OC'd to 3.72 is not going to report 50% usage or anything like that.

Try over/under clocking and let us know. I think I tried my x1950 Pro in a Celeron system and it was close tot he same frame time as a P4 system.

Really? That's weird. At 8 minutes a frame how is it 594? 8 mins/frame X 100 frames = 800 minutes. 800 minutes / 60 = 13.33 hours. 24 hours in a day/13.33 = 1.8 WU Each work unit is 220 points so 220 X 1.8 = 396? Anyways, I dedicate 1 core to CPU and to to GPU, the core that's running the GPU is constantly hovering below 50, like 47-48. If you increase the clockspeed, say to 3.0+, it would fall below 40?

It wasn't expensive people, it was about 240 dollars per case+motherboard/CPU/PSU. Just need to add ram and an old HDD and it's up and running. Btw, I can afford this because I eBay! A LOT!

Incidentally, the PPD for GPUs is now 330, so your calculations should show 594ppd.
