Hey,
both cards in the title are based on the same RV570 core. As far that I can see the only difference between the 2 cards are the freqs.

I've also seen that you can OC the x1950gt to x1950pro freqs pretty easily. My question is: If you OC the x1950pro will you get higher freqs that an OCed x1950gt? If so, why is that? same core, isn't it?

the pro is a good item.as a general rule does not overclock that easily.ihave ran mine at 683mhz,but not for long periods of time your mileage may vary

I say just get the GT and save some cash... My GT OCed up to around ~635 core with stock cooling.

I hear the gt's don't OC for shit.

I went with a pro...i suggest you do as well ;D

X1900GT Rev1 is great bang for the buck. Rev2 does not clock as well but is still good. It is just a bit slower than the Pro The X1950GT is slower than both revisions of the X1900GT and no where near as good in terms of bang for buck.

QFT. My x1900gt was amazing. Great overclocker and plenty of horsepower.

1900GT = R580 core = good, rev1s were great because they unlocked most of the time.

1950gt = rv570 which is the same as the pro, but the pro's mem and core are both clocked faster

Both cards in general don't overclock for shit if at all, try to find one with an analog pwm, ive heard its the digital vrm which holds it back, held my first x1950pro back, and this one doesn't overclock well.

If theres two cards you want to avoid if at all possible for overclocking, its the x1950gt and pro, and the x1650xt for that matter (same chip).

I have the GT and it OC's faster than the Pro but IMHO if the difference is only $15ish then get the Pro. OCing is not 100% so if you are unlucky then you will wish you spent the extra $15.

Allow me to re-route the thread:

Now what would you get between an x1950pro or an 8600GT?

I know the x1950 has got the power and the 256-bit memory interface....but a voice in my head keeps whispering "DX10, DX10!"

Replacing a 6800GS, btw.

8600GT < x1950pro
8600GTS is better than the x1950pro at reso's at or below 1280x1024, x1950pro mite be better in some games with AA enabled.

You can overclock an 8800GTS pretty well, but there around 180 still, the x1950pro is cheaper.

The 8600's are the "FX" cards of DX10. They are too slow in DX10 to run DX10 code so cross DX10 off the list as a reason to buy them.

Judge 8600's by their DX9 performance and until Nvidia puts a 256-bit interface on them the x1950's will always be the better pick.
