X1950 XTX at 550$?

My guess is that this is first shipment price gouging. Once the supply works itself out, everyone has them, and there is no supply shortages, the prices will settle in closer to those that were reported for the 1950 series cards.

The cards sell out fast, so I don't think people shopping in this price range are too worried about DX10 cards.

CONSIDERING HOW FAST THE sorry caps 1950 will devalue after the dx10 cards come out in a month or two I wouldn't touch it.

Not worth the $550 if it's not DX10 compatable since DX10 cards will cost in that price range, making the 1950 fall.
 
its not gonna be 550, here in canada at my store that I work for, its in our system for 499 retail canadian from dropship, and thats in canada, cost isn't too horrible, not low enough for it to make it much cheaper (distrbutors price gouge abit as well at launch) I could see it going for maybe 479.99 at absolute best at launch (in canadian dollars at other stores), but doubt it.

Mind you theres none instock, but our ETA is the 25th. We do order usually direct from ATi for the real cost prices, since the ATi direct SKU's arn't in our system yet I'm asuming the head honco hasn't contacted the ATi rep to get shipment data for the X1950's.

Point is that it should be around 470-520 at launch, and thats WITH price gouging ( thats for online stores, brick and morter, BB, FS, Fry's, etc, well theyre gonna be like 649 and etc).

That's how it always is in the computer market. If you keep waiting for that next better card that doesn't even have a tentative release date yet. You would never upgrade.

Yes but when the 'next, better card' is a next generation card, then it is worth waiting for and refraining.

I'm personally not holding my breath for the "next generation" or DX10. Maybe when we get closer to release date.

I don't think anyone will need a DX10 card for 2 years and I definately don't think the first generation of the cards will be anything more than really good DX9c cards. You know the capatibility with DX10 won't be right till MS irons out its own issues with Vista.

What I meant about this price range comment though is that people who generally spend $550 on a Video card won't have a problem dropping another $550 in 6 months and probably will. They need to be on the bleeding edge.
 
If money were no object then the X1950XTX would be a great choice to upgrade right now. In Oct. however(my next upgrade) im looking at a X1950Pro or X1900XT 256mb version. The latter is on sale on NewEgg for 279 after MIR which seems like a pretty good deal to me. I wouldnt get a DX10 card until DX10 games come out. Hell, i would get a DX10 card until there is a game that would stress the current batch of videocards.
 
DirectX 10 games most likely wont be released till well after vista ships - look how long it took for companys to utilise directX9 code, around 5 years after the release of XP.
Gun metal was the FIRST game to fully utilise directX9 and that only came out maybe a year ago.

Plus, like all Ms's OS's, vista will be nice and buggy until the service packs start rolling out - it's the MS way :rolleyes:
