Ok, I remember reading the answer to this somewhere but I can't remember where. For Crossfire for the X1950 Pro, I can just add another X1950 Pro, doesn't have to be the same brand right? I have an ATI branded one right now (and am pissed that they go on sale a week after I buy mine) but I'd rather spend the $75 less and buy a Sapphire when they are in stock again.
 
does crossfire provide the same performance increase as nvidia's SLI?
 
Better than SLI. In the X1900s case, crossfire provides an almost 90% increase. Tom's Hardware VGA chart shows the performance increase of FPS in games.

X1950XTX CF vs 7900GTX SLI. However the X1950Pros are similar, but not the same. I would suspect a substantial performance increase.

HardOCP did a review back in the day when the X1950Pro came out.

actually, it was the review by [H]ard|OCP that made me decide to get one. i'm loving the card so far and i have yet to add another one :D

Any X1950 Pro will work in crossfire.
All you need is two of the crossover links & two cards.
This allows data to flow back and forth from both cards at the same time.
That is one reason the native crossfire performs so well.
