Is the x1950 pro AGP even worth it to still keep my system or should I just build a budget PCI-E system later one?

the smartest thing in the world is to hold off on upgrades/rebuilds until you absolutely need to. computers and thier components are pretty bad investments. if your current system does everything you need it to, then you're golden. of course i dont always practice what I preach. :D
 
It might be very worth it.

The x1950pro is a fast card... so... if you have a good AGP system and can't afford a full system overhaul, then it is worth it.

Everyone is on a new socket now... and DDR2... so if you are going to do a full system upgrade, you are going to be buying more then just a motherboard and a video card...

It is worth it for me. I have a s939 AGP system.
 
I personally think it's worth it, and as soon as I save up enough pennies I'm all over it. The system in your sig is a little better than mine, so yeah, I think it would be worth it for you.

Too many people are quick to advise a new build, indicating all you'll need is a mobo/cpu and a card, but that's not always the case, psu/ram upgrades are needed as well in many situations.
 
I would wait until a reputable site compares the 1950 AGP to the 6800GT AGP.

A ten percent increase would not be worth the upgrade cost over your current card. If on the other hand an apples to apples review yields twenty percent or more versus the 6800GT, than two hundred or so dollars is small price to extend the life of your current system by twelve months or so.
 
You don't need to wait for something like that.

The x1950pro AGP is going to perform like the PCIe version... there are plenty reviews of that one!

It is going to be over twice as fast in alot of games, and you are going to be able to use resolutions you would never be able to on a 6800.

I agree I would like to see a good review of the AGP version. They also need to drop the price of it for it to compete with the 7800GS @ $200.

I would agree with Yashu. A X1950PRO AGP vs any other AGP card doesn't interest me. A better comparison would be a X1950PRO AGP system vs a X1950PRO PCI-E system. Then you could take the performance differences (if any) and apply them to other reviews/comparos.

A comparison to the PCIE 1950 Pro benchmark numbers should be in a complete review, just to show what is being missed out on by holding off on the PCIE bandwagon and getting by with a graphics only upgrade. But it's hardly more important than comparing to the AGP cards it is supposed to upgrade. The 6800GT AGP is what a LOT of people that will be considering the 1950 AGP already have though and if it's not a more significant upgrade than the fairly disapointing 7800GS that appears to be nvidias last AGP offering then it needs to be clearly shown. If it is a more significant upgrade this should be clear as well.

It looks like a lock for fastest AGP card by a good margin, and I really doubt it will suffer badly compared to the PCIE version, but head to head comparisons will make it all so much cleaer. :cool:
 
With a Powercolor version our next month for $209, you should wait to get one of those. That would be perfect.

Powercolor X1950 Pro 256MB AGP is going to retail for $209 according to recent review.
