I did a little reading on upgrades for my aging agp box and discovered that the x1950 pro was the best choice. Now, I am replacing a 9800pro with this card and to my horror the card runs slower than the 9800pro in one of the only games that I play, WOW.
With everything turned off I get anywhere from 8-48fps. this is under 1280x1024 with everything turned down to it's lowest setting.
Shouldn't I be getting better than this?

the system i'm running it on is:
P4 2.4 @ 3ghz
1 gig of ddr 400 dual channel ram
750 gig hitachi drive
windows 2k
Corsair 520 watt psu

I have 2gigs of ram on the way to me in the mail and windows xp sitting on the floor (waiting on the ram to install). Is xp going to make a difference (I'm thinking driver issue since ati doesn't seem to want to support 2k anymore) or should I just exchange the card for another (defective?)? I've tried running multiple drivers from the latest omega to cat 6.11 - 7.11.

Any help you could provide would be appreciated.
 
I'm going to guess that upgrading to XP will solve your problems. I went from a 9800pro to a 256m X1950pro AGP, and the difference is huge....
 
try looking for omega drivers. they work great for the agp 1950's if you are having problems but i do not know if thy make them for win2k
 
Yes, I uninstalled the drivers each time I installed a different version.
I used drivercleaner pro after using the ati uninstaller. I don't think it's a clean driver issue.

I did notice one other thing that I forgot to mention... the caed after playing for a good while was just warm, not hot.
 
You got the card plugged into the PSU I trust. Other than that, and getting XP, I don't know what to say.
 
Ya I got it plugged into the psu. The card came with a 2x4 pin adapter. I tried using that and then the 6 pin connector that the psu came with when I noticed the fps issue. No luck at all.
 
Try using ATI tool to manually adjust your gpu/ram speeds to the 3d clocks/voltages and then play your games or run your benches. Your setup may be having an issue with 3d detection.

The X800XT have 2.5 the performance of the 9800PRO, and the X1950PRO is between 30% and 65% faster than the X800XT, so it should be almost 4 times faster, but since he's CPU limited, the gains will diminish.
