x1900xtx voltage regulator temp

I noticed the temp on the voltage regulator in AtiTool hitting 92-93c under load. Is this a fairly normal temp for it to reach? The core is staying in the high 70's, so its fairly safe.
 
Believe it or not, that's considered acceptable and "normal" by ATI.
Scary huh? I just got my x1900xtx in last night. Replaced a 7800GTX-OC on water.
I almost stroked out when I saw the temps in ATITool.
 
You can sink it, but that's a pretty normal temp for a voltage regulator. They're designed to get REALLY hot. Much hotter than a chip can.
 
Thanks everyone, I feel better now. I was afraid I was going to slag something with those temps lol.
 
Those are the temps I saw on my XTX (Sapphire) card when I first had it (6-8 months back). It runs incredibly hot. SADLY last night it looks as if the card has died. (it's worked flawlessly since I had it - with 1-2hours of DOD Source about 5 times a week) I was getting artifacts as soon as I entered a 3d game, and either the VPU recovery would kick in, or the system would reboot on it's own. I took the card out and looked at it - the PCB has a pronounced curve to it compared to the heatsink. (I couldn't see any gaps between the core and the heatsink though) Really blew my mind when I first saw it. Well now it is displaying artifacts/splotches during P.O.S.T. so an RMA is in the works... :(
Unless my PSU has gone bad and is causing the glitches during post, I'd have to say the intense heat over time was the cause of death
 
It's pretty common for the PCB to be impressively bent due to the cooler. I don't think it impacts HSF/core mating.
 
The Arctic Colling Accelero x2 will make a world of difference, and I believe it is now on sale for $15 at svc.com.

I installed this cooler on an X1800XT, and it could not have been happier. The Accelero fan is very, very quiet at 100%, so I've set my ATT profiles to run at ~80% all the time. Load temps never go over 70C, and I can't hear it over my 120mm case fans.
