X1900XTX fan setting question...

I have a X1900XTX and noticed that at stock setting the fan runs at 27% and at like 89C it only ran around 37% and I dont like to see my card hitting 89C. So I am wondering, if I use Rivatuner and set the Fan to always run at 50%, is this ok? It will not harm the card will it?

P.S. I know someone will say that Rivatuner is not compatible with the X1900 series yet, but I did the configuration file tweak, so I can get the fan settings working with my card. So please let me know your suggestions.

My max temp now is only 77C instead of 89C...So is this a safe fan setting mate? 50% at all times?
 
dude get atitool, you can get it on www.guru3d.com website, on there you will be able to customize your fan speed properly so when its in game if can go even faster and you wont notice it while playing games, I have mine at 100% during games.


And no harm to your gpu, the fan isnt part of the gpu itself remember and trying to get it as cool as possible is never a bad thing :)
 
Well when I ran Ati Tool, I got lower benchmarks, I heard when running Ati Tool it turns of the 2D clocks. So your GPU is always running the 3D clocks is this true? Is there a way to keep 2D clocks on with Ati Tool?
 
no I dont think that is correct, you are asked about clock speeds whn ATI tool loads, it asks if you want to disable the application that changes the clock speeds I always say no. rivatuner will allow you to change fan speeds but they have no option for the dynamic changing. but you do get way better thermal monitoring.
 
Well I played around with Ati Tool, the newest BETA and since I am running Windows XP 64bit, I am getting a lot of bugs with this application. Now is it a bad thing for me to use Rivatuner and just set the fan speed to 50% at all times? Is that going to stress the fan out and burn it out quicker?

No it isnt I was doing it until I got atitool, I am also using windows 64bit, the only thing I use atitool for is to make dynamic fan setup and when its minamized tell me my temps.
 
When I have ATI Tool open, like not minimized but running in my second monitor, then I open like Call of Duty 2 and the screen just freezes with weird colors and i have to reboot, but without Ati Tool it doesn't do it. Is it because I dont have Ati Tool minimized?

The Ati Tool I used doesn't ask me about the clock settings....so it does mess with them right away.

Since you say its completely safe to run my fan at 50% all the time then why not use Rivatuner?

If you want to deal with the loud fan then yes use rivatuner if it is 64 compatible. the only reason that I use ATItool is for the dynamic temp control, I have my machine on for at least 80% of the day and at =>50% fan speed it is just to loud for me. rivatuner has so many more options to it, if it is 64 bit use it man I wish I could. also, you can have rivatuner monitor the clock changes and that should give you some comfotr in knowing that they are indeed changing. good luck
 
I have a fan salvaged from an old IBM XT clone power supply circa 1984 as a secondary fan in the back of my case....20+ years at full speed and the thing still doesn't even make any noise. I'm sure your fan will be fine, the only reason most people don't run it at 100% all the time is because it's so damn noisy. And if ATITool is bothering you, you can set the fan settings to apply at bootup and then have ATITool exit, and they will be retained.

The fan will long outlive the useful life of the card.
 
So just to avoid Ati Tool, I am probably just going to use Rivatuner and set my fan to run at 50% at all times. 2D and 3D clocks, so since you say it won't affect it anytime soon.
