x1900xtx artifacting?

hey yall, i just installed my x1900xtx in my newly built comp like 4 days ago. so far up untill this point everything has gone pretty smooth with gaming and all that. i even downloaded ati tool to increase my fan speeds so the temp dropped from lik 82c underload to 65c. but this morning i turned it on, started up FEAR, did a stress test, minimized it, and on my windows desktop screen all these little lines keep popping up on the right side of the screen. is the artifacting? i dont understand y this is happening after i lowered my temps. plz help. oh and i dont notice this on the game either, just when im in windows, and im looking at these lines as i type this post...

i dont know if this helps, but whenever i try to boot up after the comp has been off overnight, it usually takes me 2 or 3 startups for the bios to post on my screen, but the comp still runs fine just nothing comes up sometimes. and like 3 minutes ago, i was surfing the web and my screen went black with the monitor and comp working normal, i had to restart my comp. could this be a bios problem? or a RMA'd vid card in the future?
 
its unlikely its gonna be a power issue- i had a similair problem with my x850 a while back- changed the psu and it was gone- BUT since i've read alot of problems with artifacting on the x1900x series - many users are experiencing problems in 3dmark 06 and a few games (overclockers.co.uk forums). i'd recommend getting it rma'd. :(

i just hope my sapphire x1950xtx i get in 3 days time is ok.. :confused:

one option is place the 12 volt rail directly to the gfx card with nothing else running off it- see if thats makes an improvement.
 
I had a problem like that with my x1800xt, I'd even get artifacting at the boot screen - everywhere I had artifacts, even with hardware acceleration turned to "none" in the display properties. I couldn't boot Windows for more than 2 minutes without haveing the screen go black (it was like it turned off or lost signal - my monitor was even saying "recommended optomized 75Hz-1280x1024" meaning my gpu just stopped responding at times). It's RMA now and I'll be getting a refund and getting a x1900xt, hopefully I won't have the issue again. I didn't think it was my PSU either - it's brand new, dual 12V rail at 35A, much more than than recommended. You should post some pictures. That's what I did when I was unsure, and everyone was saying it definently looked like a gpu problem.
 
well it doesnt seem to be doing it anymore. i was just gaming for like 2 hours and i havent seen any glitches or random pixels flashing around, not on the main menu, or the game. hopefully it was a fluke, and it didnt look like anything serious but was annoying, so no i cant post any pics because the evidence is gone... i really want to see if updating my bios will make any difference cuz everything else is up to date, no overclocking, and its pretty well ventilated.

i hear the x1950 has a decent cooling system on it. atleast alot better than the x1900's, plus its much more quite. so i wouldnt worry about that.

Just to let you know, my x1800xt was fine for a day or two after the initial errors, and then it went to hell. Hopefully your won't turn out that way!

well that makes me feel much better. well wat did you do after yours died. replacement or refund?
 
Refund, but that's because I saw the $240 256MB X1900XT go up and I'm going to order that one. Now it's temporarily back to my Celeron 2.0Ghz with 32MB Pro Savage Onboard graphics!
