x1900xt Problem.

Dear all, I have a smalll problem here.
I get some artifacts on my new x1900xt from ASUS. No overclock.
Running it off a 939 motherborad Xpress3200 from ASUS. Single GPU config.
This is the problem:
I get some small blue dots (1 pixel) on the screen, but not all the time and not everywhere. These small dots seem to be only present in dark areas and seems to corelate with different textures.
Running fresh install of CAT 6.3
Any ideas?

Maybe a reinstall of cats, can you try it on another computer ? Hows the airflow on youre Case ?

Sounds like you should be getting an RMA ready though.
 
Thanks for the suggestions. I just installed 6.3 again. No chnage.
I have the case opened and fan at 100%, temp is low. 37C at iddle, 70C during load.
It only does it in Oblivion and FEAR.
No artifacts in 3DMarks, even after 10 full runs. Strange.
It does it ieven if I run the game at very low res.
Strange.
 
What are your CCC settings, presuming you are using it.

Things like AAA, HQAF, CAT AI, Mipmap detail etc. Have you played with any of these settings?
 
for now all the settings are at the lowest.
I changed almost all of them an dno difference.
 
try other drivers like omega ones maybe?

try running something intensive...3dmark05 isnt really that hard on the gpu in comparison to fear...
 
Just a thought, I read a review about the ati 3200 chipset having a bunch a strange issues. It may be the mb. The solution for many of the problems was a new bios (which if I recall correctly came out officially ), it apparantly fixed a lot of issues. Do you have access to another pc to try the card in? That is what I would do.... Just a thought.
 
I have bios 0311 which is the most recent one I think.
Cat 6.2 is better than Cat 6.3, at least the problem is not as bad.
I get no such issues in 3DMARK 2006. Even if I run it 10 times in a row.
I get minor defects in FEAR also. But not as bad.
FEAR and Oblivion are the only two games I have graphical issues with, even at low res. Makes me wonder if this has something to do with their codes or a some implimation they have in common.
Any ideas?

You have an LCD screen?

Depending on if the dots are in the same spots on the screen every time, this may or may not be vid card related...if you have an LCD, download a screen tester program and make sure you don't have a few dead or lazy pixels.

If it is video card related, it sounds like the same thing that happens when vid card memory is overheating/defective but, it could still be driver and texture related, not likely but could be, so switching drivers can be of value here.

Just one more thing: DO NOT use a driver cleaner other than ATi's...or you WILL end up having problems elsewhere.

Yea I was about to say, I have the eaxct same thing on my 23" LCD which is about a year old (kick ass thou, 16ms which is good enough for me) which while it has no dead pixels, it DOES have the barely noicable blue, yellow pixels on black or dark sences in games, when I use crt(at lan party) and etc never see them, but on my lcd I do, but I only notice them when I look for them, that and they only show up on black, and even then barely noticeable since they are DARK blue, DARK yello as well, so the black masks it well :p, other than in black/dark, the pixels work perfectly, they not stuck or dead, or etc
 
I'm not sure it' sbeen said in this thread yet as I'm pressed for time but use ati tool to put the fan at 100% all the time. Quite a few people had issues with that until the fan was put at 100%. Noise will increase but maybe the artifacts will go away.

Just a thought
