X1900XT + P5W Deluxe Problems

E6600
P5W Deluxe mother board
2GB G.Skill DDR2 800
Akasa 580W PSU (quad 12v rails)
X1900XT
Kandalf Case

I have a very odd problem

I have had 2 HIS X1900XT IceQ cards, both failed in the same way after 1 days use.
When i first put the card into the system it runs fine, I 3DMark06 it a few times etc

I then play a few hours on CS:S or BF2 with no problem.

I then go back into 3DMark06 only to find really bad artifacting in the SM3 tests. This has happened twice now!

I can play any games with no problem but the sm3 test is a mess. If i stop the clocks boosting up to 3D speeds its fine but when the card boosts up the clock speeds its artifacts, but only in this one test!

my temps on load are about 70 oC (the fan stays at about 27%), my CPU idle is about 19 oC and under load gets up to 30 oC (both cores at 100%)

the only problem i have is that the motherboard temps get up to 51 oC and start at 35 oC (could this be killing my card?, the south bridge is very close to the card and gets to hot to touch)

Anyone have any ideas on this?

I am not the only person who is having problems with the P5W and X1900XT cards. It looks like it may be a voltage problem when it steps up to 3D.

I'm running a very similar setup including the 6600, motherboard and HIS card.
No problems so far.
Motherboard temps reporting between 35 and 50 degrees.
My graphics card is in the same slot as yours.

I have a different PSU though - Seagate S12 600W.
