X1900XT Overheating.

My video card is reaching temps of ~105C when gaming. Especially playing EvE online. When surfing the web and things the temp usually sits at 41C. I've updated all the drivers. Checked to make sure all the fans are working properly. Computer is well cleaned on the inside. Its not in a hot room or next to a heater.

I built the computer 2 years ago. I have not ever overclocked my video card or processor and they are not overclocked now. I know the ATI cards tend to run hotter but ~105C is to hot. Also when playing EvE I do get one short Beep from the computer and the screen flickers. When I tab out I have a message saying my video card is running hot and its settings are being adjusted, I click ok but it still overheats.

My computer setup is:

Gigabyte Motherboard GA-965P-S3
Processor Intel Core 2 Duo 2.13GHZ, 1066 FSB 2MB L2 Cache
Video Card MSI X1900XTX ATI Radeon
2 GB Corsair Ram
Antec Power Supply 550 watts
Edit: Using Window Vista Premium 32bit verison.

In addition to the above I have two Zalman heatsinks with fans for the processor and video card.

Processor has CNPS9500 heatsink
Video Card has VGA Cooler Modle VF900-CU Duel Heatpipe.

There are 2 120mm fans one in the back and one in the front. I also have a 240mm fan on the side of my case that blows directly onto the video card. Plus the two Zalman's each have a fan too.

I'd really like to get this issue resolved and would greatly appreciate any help anyone can provide. If anyone needs additional information please let me know and I'll do my best to provide it for you. I'm not to computer savoy so please be nice =D.

Perhaps the heatsink paste on the GPU has gone off.
Replace it and see if that sorts it.

There is a chance with such high temps that the GPU has become damaged and will always produce more heat than it used to.
The more it is used at those temps, the higher the chance of causing damage.
The only solutions then are get better cooling or reduce the clockspeed (and voltage if possible) of the GPU.

Yeah I would reseat the heatsink on the GPU. If the fan is working properly on the GPU cooler and the case has good airflow that is kind of your last resort.

Are you adjusting the fanspeed yourself? If not, that's your problem. I would always manually set mine to 80-100%. It won't run fast enough on its own.

If you're running at 105c with 100% fanspeed, there's something wrong with the card. Mine would be mid 70's at 80% if i recall correctly.

Well I took your advice. I replaced the heatsink paste. Once I got the GPU off I noticed some excess dust blocking the airflow from the fan so I made sure to clean it well. Now I'm idling at 34C and gaming at 70C which is a big improvement. I read these forums all the time and I'm glad there are people here willing to give advice and offer help. Thank you both for you advice and help.
