X1900XT overclocking

I want to overclock my X1900XT more. The highest game stable I've been is 681/774. I'm happy with the core, but I want 800Mhz on the memory.

Default GPU voltage is 1.4V
Default memory voltage is 1.84V

As of now, the hottest my card really ever gets is a little over 65C. This is using the stock cooler. Maybe 66/67C, and this is with the fan speed at 77%. I am not sure about 100%, but I prefer not to push it up to 100% as it is already loud enough under load. I also don't want to replace the stock heatsink, unless it is one that dumps the hot air outside of the case.

So anyway, what has anyone who has overclocked their X1900XT changed their voltages to, and what is the risk of frying a video card from over-volting it? As long as the temperatures stay under 75C, I believe the card is ok, but I am not sure as to what is "to much" for a GPU. Is the risk to high to take? Can a over-volt fry a GPU even if temps are fine? If this is the case, I might just keep it at stock.

If anyone could help out, that'd be great.

The difference between 774Mhz and 800Mhz is most likely minimal. But I'm just one of those people who wants the most out of their hardware while keeping the situation safe. :)
 
if i was you i''d change the cooler to a vf900 or accelero, it will give you more headroom and be much quieter.

i had an x1800xt on a vf900 i pushed to 729/900 and the difference was noticeable, okay it did hit like 80 degrees under load but i was getting high temps on stock cooling so its not gonna kill the card. it should artifact before it dies anyway. it didnt require insane voltage increases on the core, but the memory needed quite a jump.

im getting a x1900xt tomorrow so ill be trying for a similar speed

I guess I'm sorta lucky. My X1900 XT reaches the maximum limit in the Catalyst overclocking tool. This is on stock cooling and voltages too.
 
I've reached the max for ATT core clocks at 750 @ stock volts, but I have wc and I load at around 40C, the memory I can get around 825 but only with a bump to over 1.9V, and while using ramsinks I don't feel comfortable so I left it at 780, the ram speed doesn't give as much performance as core spd. Now I need to find a better way to cool the V regulator.

ATT doesn't give me proper readings.

According to it, artifact scanner says I should be stable at 701/823, but I am not. At those speeds I will get hang-ups when running 3d apps.

I pretty much use 3dmark06 to test for stability. 685/775 pretty much seemed to the limit with that program.

I wish I had watercooling :p
 
I'm so glad I have water. With an MCW60, I game at ~750/850 no problems. Core @ 1.55v, ram @ 2.09, I think.

@ Silverphoenix, The vReg is a b|tch! Mine get to about 57-60c, while the rest tops out at about 43c.
 
What are you using to cool ur memory? and what are your temps? I was afraid to go further above 1.9V for memory
 
Weird, my memory is 2.084 default.
I max out at around 780mhzDDR, using HIS ICEQ cooler.

My core's default voltage is 1.4v.
It maxes out at 675mhz, using HIS ICEQ cooler.

Right now, it idles around 40-45*c, maxes at 60-65*c (all depending on room temperature).

In my personal experiance, it's never really good to raise any voltage over 5-7% with air cooling (3% for stock), and 10% with water. I would not recommend more than a 0.075v push on either the core or memory, unless you use water cooling.
With 1.45vcore, I can get it up to 700mhz :), and with 2.12~ I can get the memory past 800mhz... I'll experiment more and get back to you. :)
