ok, my first post in ATI in a long while. I now own an x1900xt BBATI. My system is OC'd but not drastically. I'm running at a conservative 2.7ghz (3400+ s754).
The card benches well. At stock, 05 give me 10.5k...but I'd give that up to have smooth framrates in games like FEAR and BF2.
Snapshot of my system includes Tforce BIOSTAR mobo with 2Gigs of ram. A 450W PSU and a DVD Writer. Some fans and that's it. I hardly feel it's a PSU problem. I hear the card can get hot so I added a fan on top and it idles about 48-50C and doesn't seem to spin very high when playing games so I don't feel it is a heat problem--I can touch the card and it feel way cooler than it did without the extra fan.
I don't feel the need to OC the card; it seems fast enough. I only benched the card because of the performance in FEAR and BF2. I felt my Nvidia 7800GS played those games better than my ATI card but no where near in the other games.
Here is the deal....Games like HL2 (all the source games run perfect), BFV, Quake IV, Prey Demo run beautiful. Amazing actually.
But when I play BF2 and FEAR, I get stuttering. I played BF2 single player and it played beautiful so then I'm thinking it could be lag but then I think about my other card (7800gs)not giving me the problem so I feel duped there. FEAR single player was choppy though. I play my games 12x10 and no more since I only have a 19inch monitor and I like its size.
Another intersting thing about the card is a buzzing sound that the card or maybe the HSF unit makes while searching servers in BF2. It doesn't make any noises any other time, just this game and only while searching servers. Wierd I know.
Am I overly expecting this card to kill FEAR and BF2? BF2 plays better at 10*7 but still, a little on the choppy side.
Maybe someone can recommend in game settings that work with this particular card or via the card settings. Any recommendation would be great.
